April 2023 - A New Season with New Possibilities

Greetings from the International Council of Malaysian Scholars (ICMS)!

We are thrilled to announce that the 13th Council has finally taken sail, bringing a fresh wave of enthusiasm to continue transforming ICMS into a proper career hub. Missioned to develop and empower Malaysian youths personally and professionally, we are excited to prepare more events and initiatives that will help you build the skills and knowledge necessary for you to succeed. Escapism [Malaysia Chapter]

Feeling overwhelmed with assignments? Wish to meet new people and have fun together? We got you covered!

Escapism is a two-day event to kickstart the 13th Council of ICMS in the Malaysia (MY) Chapter. On this trip, the 13th Council of MY Chapter will have the opportunity to discuss what to improve for this tenure, as well as to exchange ideas and improve MY associate involvement through fun team building activities and workshops.

Makan With Maybank [United Kingdom Chapter]

Last month, we had the honour to invite five representatives from Maybank to London to share their insights into the finance, trading industry and career opportunities within Maybank. Guest speakers from Maybank include Sophia Ang (Executive VP, Head of Group Human Capital Strategy & Sustainability), Marlin A Nordin (Executive VP, Head of Group Recruitment Centre), Janice Low (Assistant VP, Talent Attraction, Workplace Futurisation & GHC Sustainability), Lakshan Sanjana (Assistant Manager, Structured Products & Warrants, Equity & Commodity Derivatives), and Sandra Lee (Senior Manager, Greater China CEO Office & Human Capital).?

During the event, attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a trading simulation game, where they worked in teams to "buy and sell stocks" to achieve the highest return.?

We would like to extend our gratitude to Maybank and all of the attendees for making this event a success. We hope that all participants found the event informative and valuable. Looking forward to hosting similar event(s) in the future!

Sunway Engagement Night [United Kingdom Chapter]

Another insightful event held in the United Kingdom (UK) Chapter last month was the Sunway Engagement Night. The panel session focused on directors from respective Sunway divisions and they discussed topics such as technology development and digital transformations, and how these advancements impacted their respective divisions. The directors include Clayton Tan (Head of Organisational Development), Ooi Wern Earn (Head of HR, Sunway Malls), and Liew ZiQing (Head of Digital, Development & Delivery, Sunway property).

Following the panel session, each division presented their upcoming Sunway projects, including construction, development, Sunway Mall, and technology. Finally, Wern Earn and Felicia, Head of HR from Sunway Malls and Sunway Property, and Chong Pei Wen (Talent Programme Lead, Sunway Group) introduced the development and career opportunities within Sunway.?

We would like to thank all the directors from respective Sunway divisions for their insights and all of the attendees for their engagement throughout the event!
