open day (5th Oct), I am sat preparing myself for the inevitable statement from attendees when discussing apprenticeships - 'I didn't realise that'. So, lets have a quick run through some apprenticeship key details and info:-
- YES - it is true that an apprentice NEVER pays for their programme at any level - this means that even degree level quals lead to no student costs, loans etc. Getting into apprenticeships can lead to great careers, learning vocationally from Level 2 up to Level 7 - WITH NO STUDENT LOAN
- NO - The is NO upper age limit on apprenticeships. Age is no barrier to learning so if you are wanting a career change or to upskill in your role, then an apprenticeship could be for you.
- YES - Apprentices are eligible for student discount cards such as Unidays and TOTUM, and yes, they are worth having.
- HAVE YOU EVER CONSIDERED HOW YOU LEARN? - Think about this. Some people learn best when studying 'on the job' and being shown something new in the real work can help them understand further and retain the knowledge better. If this is you then an apprenticeship could help.
- NO - There is no such thing as an apprenticeship wage now. Salaries/NMW for apprentices align with all other UK norms.
- HOW MANY??? There are over 650 apprenticeship Standards available in the UK which encompass around 2000 'pathways'. These are from Level 2 to Level 7 and cover a vast range of subject areas.
