It's not just about the money. The Apprenticeship Levy, the "Payroll Tax", replacing the training budget.
The win is to seize the opportunity (for business) to rethink their approach to apprenticeships as part of their wider Learning & Development and Talent activities.
We are starting to ask ourselves those 'what if?' questions, having conversations across the business to learn 'what do your people need?', synthesising this with what we do already and developing our apprenticeship strategy so that it adds value to what we do.
So, as I start to take up my role with Specsavers, we are getting our ducks in a row to ensure that our future apprenticeships do far more than simply turn the Apprenticeship Levy into an income stream.

8 年Great article Mark. This is certainly an interesting time! Have you considered whether you will be instructing one provider to deliver / co deliver nationally for you or will you be employing regional procurement exercises (via Apprenticeships Online)?

8 年Good article and you are totally right as each organisation needs to take a look in the mirror and work out what's the right plan and not to just spend their Levy. Are companies like Specsavers, Pearson, etc looking to train inhouse in certain areas or are they working with others? Another issue large nationwide companies have is how to you reach out and develop in all four corners of England!

8 年Couldn't agree more Mark! We have created a self-assessment toolkit aimed at helping employers to understand how they can integrate Apprenticeship opportunities into their existing talent programmes. If you are interested send me a message.

8 年You're so right, Mark. Going back to first principles and understanding what's needed allows the best solutions to be put in place and will allow your resulting apprenticeship strategy to deliver. Too often, people do things for the wrong reasons and consequently the true benefits are never to be realised. Good luck with your new role!
