Apprenticeship vs University there can be only one…

One has to be better than the other.

Right?

Well actually no. Anyone who tells you that you made the wrong choice is speaking from their own personal experience.?

Both have their benefits. And guess what... You might even decide to do both.

Uni

Degrees have and continue to be a great signal in the job market. Like it or not recruiters often get loads of applications and to be real, making a degree a requirement can mean fewer to go through even when it’s not really necessary. There is also generally a positive perception of the type of candidate they’ll attract which is great news if you’re studying towards a degree.?

At Uni you get the chance to learn how to learn for a few years before you start working and btw once you get into the job market you really do appreciate time you can spend just learning rather than constantly having to do the doing.

It’s also a great place to meet your best friends, your other half and the connections you’ll have for life.?

For me personally, this alone made it worth it (minus the other half bit that didn’t happen).

And if you're looking for a Grad scheme right now, there are a few at the bottom of this article. ????

Apprenticeship

But hold on there, apprenticeships have their advantages too. And there is a growing movement (which I support) within D&I that is seeing apprenticeships being more widely offered as this is seen to be a more inclusive approach.

Apprenticeships are a wonderful way to earn while you learn. Get some terrific qualifications while putting some money in your pocket.?

Best of all here, getting experience in a controlled environment is a great way to figure out what you do and don’t want to do with your career which can save you time and money down the line.

Many large employers now hire big cohorts of Apprenticeships so you can now get the social benefits of a grad scheme.

Did you know you can still do some Apprenticeships even if you have a degree?

If you’ve been struggling to find your way in the job market, have a think about whether an Apprenticeship could be your next move whether you've got a degree or not.

If you are keen and you’re into Finance check out this apprenticeship opportunity. You’ll get to grips with Financial Planning and Analysis and get 8 hours to study per week (be sure to highlight your Excel skills).

Best of luck if you do apply. And remember, there is no right or wrong here, just what’s best for you.?
