Applying for Roles
So, we've covered creating a CV and how to best format and maximise clients reading your application. Now it's time to discuss the actual applying for roles, which sounds pretty straight forward, but trust me it isn't.
Finding the right company to work for is a huge challenge for anyone, and there are some fits that work right now, but wouldn't at any other time and vice versa. Ultimately it comes down to one thing, knowing where you are in your career, and where you want to be, and whether the role and company you're applying for will help with this.
This is a moment to be selfish. Don't think only of what you can do in the role if you're taken on, but what you can get out of that position, and the company. It's worth noting that the more specific you are with your next step the better actually. A recruiter would love it if you approached them with a fairly tidy CV (blog 1), a list of companies you'd like to work for or similar and the role and salary that you want. But further to that, the hirer will love it too. If you know what you want and you're confident in going out there to secure that, then you increase your chances of achieving it hugely.
If you don't know exactly what you're looking for yet, then a great tip is to look at your friends, colleagues and clients. See what roles they do, and what really lights a fire under you, and then figure out what you need to do to get hold of that role, and go achieve that.
