What is the International 3R prize?
The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) in the UK awards every year the International 3R Prize to a researcher who has published a paper describing outstanding and original research with a major impact on Replacement, Reduction or Refinement of the use of laboratory animals. The award includes a £28k prize grant and a £2k personal award. GlaxoSmithKline has contributed £20k toward the prize grant.

Who is eligible to apply for the 3R prize?
The Prize will be awarded to an individual who may be the Principal Investigator, research lead or any other author. Any researcher in academia or industry, in the UK or overseas is eligible.

Which types of paper are eligible?
The paper should have been published in the last three years (from 1 September 2020 to 1 September 2023). The paper should describe experimental or laboratory-based research. Review articles (including systematic reviews and meta-analyses) are not eligible.
