The Department of Economics forms an independent part of Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) - the most research-intensive business school in the UK (REF 2014). With over 40 members of faculty from more than 15 countries, the Department provides an international, collegial and dynamic research environment with a commitment to world-class academic excellence. The Department has a long history of research in Education and Labour Economics and, in recent years, has developed a strong presence in Development and in Health Economics through a collaboration with the Department of Health Research.?

The Chair appointment, together with the opening of a lectureship position, aims to further strengthen the academic excellence and reputation of the research group on Labour, Education, Development, and Health Economics, and to extend its research activities. The Chair appointment comes with a decreased teaching load to promote a greater focus on research.?

You will be expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the Department, to maintain a high-quality research agenda that reaches out to external networks of collaborators as well as contributing to research activity within the Department. This will include taking a leadership role in fundraising for large research grants, including external collaborations.

You should have already established an excellent track record across the fields of Labour, Education, Development, and Health Economics. This should include recent publications in internationally recognised journals, externally funded research collaboration, PhD supervision, success in programme development and curriculum innovation, and experience of administrative duties. Applications from researchers whose work has impact on society, for example through influencing policy or practice, would be very welcome.?

We are currently looking to fill a tenure track position at the level of Lecturer (i.e., equivalent to Assistant Professor) across the applied micro fields of Labour, Health, Education, or Development Economics. You should have a PhD Economics or related field by the time of the appointment and demonstrate the potential to publish in internationally recognised journals. You will be expected to participate fully in the intellectual life of the department, to maintain a high-quality research agenda that reaches out to external networks of collaborators as well as contributing to research activities within the Department and the School. This will include participating in externally funded collaborative research projects as well as seeking funding for one’s own projects. The teaching responsibilities will consist of a contribution to core subjects at any level in the research areas of the jobholder, as well as supervision of MSc and PhD students.
