Applications of IoT – iSoCIAL

The word IoT means Internet of Things. It is the old era word for “Connected Things”.

The Internet of Things is the inter-networking of physical devices, vehicles, buildings, and other items—embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity that enable these objects to collect and exchange data.

According to the data collected by HP at different time intervals, dating back to the 90’s, and the results are surprising which show that there were already 0.3 million people in the world in 1990 that were using IoT to lower their human labor.

And the devices that were liked most by the early adapters of IoT in UK, Germany, Japan, USA, are:-

Here are some Applications of IoT:-

1.     Smart Home – In earlier days, smart homes meant having a refrigerator or a washing machine or a television with dvd\vcr player, but now the concept and the definition have both changed as technology has taken a toll over human labor. Technology is playing a big part or may we say, the main role in smart homes. They let you unlock doors, switch lights on\off, work up the garden sprinklers, recognize an intruder, detect a security breach, etc… with just a click on the phone. Smart homes are designed to save time and energy of humans so that they can put it to better use and create something even more wonderful.

2.     Smart Wearable’s – Accessories like the virtual reality eye glasses, Fitbit’s smart wristbands and Apple’s smart watches, etc… that let you experience things like never before. It’s literally technology in\on your hand. These are the most convenient way of using technology and already in full use in almost whole of the world.

3.     Smart Cars – The best examples to these are the TESLA Cars. These are the new age cars that keep the driver and the passenger in full security and give you prior notice about any danger coming your way. A connected car is a vehicle which is able to optimize its own operation, maintenance as well as comfort of passengers using onboard sensors and internet connectivity. A smart car not only does that but they stay connected to you via your phone and lets you stay updated on the condition of your car. They let you know when the car tire is losing pressure or if the gate is still unlocked or if someone is trying to break in into your car and also the location of your car at all times.

4.     Industrial Internet – This is one of the things that will be coming handy in the future. It is the new buzz in the industrial sector as it is empowering industrial engineering with sensors, software and big data analytics to create brilliant machines. It holds great potential for quality control and sustainability. Applications for tracking goods, real time information exchange about inventory among suppliers and retailers and automated delivery will increase the supply chain efficiency.

5.     Smart Cities – This is exactly like what we used to see in the 90’s cartoon series “The Jetsons” and dream about in the night. Smart cities are one of the sure shot things that we humans will be using in the near future (as near as in 10 years max). Smart cities will change the way we humans live from tip-to-toe, it’ll solve major problems faced by the people living in cities like pollution, traffic congestion and shortage of energy supplies etc. Products like cellular communication enabled Smart Belly trash will send alerts to municipal services when a bin needs to be emptied. Smart surveillance, automated transportation, smarter energy management systems, water distribution, urban security and environmental monitoring all are examples of internet of things applications for smart cities.
