Application Period Closing Soon For The First Boston Scientific Medical Student Innovation Fellowship Award

As 2022 draws to a close, we’d like to highlight a milestone we’re particularly proud of – the establishment of the Boston Scientific Medical Student Innovation Fellowship Award. In partnership with Urology Care Foundation, this new award supports medical students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds interested in translating urology research into innovation by engaging them in a fellowship mentored by world-class urologic scientists.

Each program year, one current or matriculating medical student who would like to invest one year during medical school to engage in innovative research training will be selected as a fellow. Applications opened this fall for one award that will begin July 2023. With host institutions matching Urology Care foundation funds, the awardee will receive a $20,000 stipend for a 12-month research project.

The establishment of this endowment comes at a crucial time for the field of urology. "This fellowship is particularly needed now as urologists have told us they are concerned about the unsustainably low number of new urologists entering the field compared to the growing patient demand. It is more critical now than ever to support medical students from all backgrounds who are interested in pursuing urology specialties and research that may lead to innovative technologies to improve patient care," said Meghan Scanlon, senior vice president and president, Urology and Pelvic Health, Boston Scientific. "We are honored to collaborate with the Urology Care Foundation to support the creation of this fellowship and help increase diversity and inclusive representation in the field of urology and in clinical research."
