What do B-listers at the Oscars and your latest job application have in common?
??? They both end up missing from the shortlist.
Hunting for a remote job in tech can feel like a LOT of ‘thanks, but no thanks.’
For a select few, there’s a VIP area with a straight shot to their dream jobs. The only problem is - you don’t know how to get in.
What do they know that you don’t?
There are less remote roles , and more people (98%) who want them than ever before. A single job can attract thousands of applicants, from everywhere.
The odds of landing one with 1700 applicants is around 0.06%.
That’s 60X harder than getting into Harvard, and about as likely as being born on a leap year day.
VIP tech talent knows that it’s not just about applying – but applying right.
It's about being so good that hiring managers can't ignore you, choosing roles that make you leap out of bed in the morning, and creating applications that make them think, "Where have you been all my life?"
It’s time for you to make the list with the Red Velvet Rope Approach.
Let’s crash the tech job party.
Ready to ditch the line and get behind that velvet rope?

?? Does remote work kill creativity?
Hell no! But the powers that be insist that it does. Even when so many of us excel when we get to work – uninterrupted – online. ?
For creatives, flexible work = freedom.
No-one knows this better than?Carla Dewing from Cape Town, South Africa.
Her most direct route to creative freedom was to escape office life. So, 15 years ago – she went all-in on remote work and has never looked back.

This Week's Question is From Jacob McKenzie in Gauteng, SA:
“Of the 25 countries you visited last year – is there a secret place or story that springs to mind that you haven’t shared before? What was it, and how did it impact you as someone who leads, works and travels remotely for this community?”
My Answer:
Hey Jacob,
Wow, you're paying attention!
It's really hard to pick just one. Episode 30 definitely springs to mind, because it was my first time filming alone on the road (fun fact: all my gear fits in a backpack!), I was really struck by the magnitude at which my hero’s remote job had impacted the opportunities available to her in Guatemala.
But since I covered that on the show, let me tell you about the most secret place I visited between filming. There are no direct flights from Pakistan to India, so the most cost-effective routes all involved long stopovers.
But one of the stopover options was a place I’d always wanted to visit: Oman. I’d heard that there was an amazing hike to a desert oasis in Wadi Shab… only trouble was it was the middle of summer and a sweltering 45oC, so the usual tours were all canceled.
Not to be deterred, I arranged a private guide to help me attempt it. The odds were against me, and hiking in the heat was suffocating… but the payoff was having the oasis all to myself (secret cave waterfall and all).
On the 2 hour drive back to Muscat, as I reopened my laptop to continue working, I couldn’t help but notice the parallel between this experience and my remote job.
I had achieved something that was wonderful, yet so difficult that most people can’t hack it. But I’m the kind of person who isn’t put off by hard things. That tenacity (aka grit) is responsible for all the best things in my life… magical Oman oasis included.
Ask Andrew is a way for you to write in with a question and get a direct response from me. Focus on remote leadership, Crossover insights, and global remote work narratives - leave out technical and application queries (I won’t answer them!).
