Apple’s AI Announcement Coming Soon, ChatGPT’s New Model in Training, Gigafactory of Compute, and More AI News!

Welcome back, I’m Brian The Mac Man, and you're reading the 3rd edition of our journey through the realms of Apple and artificial intelligence.

Thank you so much to all 60,000+ subscribers so far!

By the time I release the next (4th) newsletter, Apple will have hosted their massive conference World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) where they are making a ton of announcements regarding AI and updates to each of their softwares (iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and visionOS).

iPhone Gets Eyes

Speaking of visionOS (which is currently only for the Vision Pro) - I hear that we could see some major “vision” updates coming to iOS and iPhone! Can you imagine just looking at your screen to take actions without using your hands? This may be a reality with the next software update - likely to launch in tandem with the next iPhone release rumored to be in September.

Apple does an amazing job testing out features with certain devices and then bringing those capabilities into more product lines. The Vision Pro surely helps people and Apple “see” the world - so why not bring some of the eye tracking to iPhone? This move makes a lot of sense and will help empower the 1.5 billion users who have iPhone to use their device in new ways (caveat: this feature will likely only work on the newest iPhone and maybe the iPhone 15 / 15 Pro given the technical requirements to make it work).

Whether someone has a physical disability and truly a need for eye tracking, or not, this is a game changer for accessibility and will lead to further easy of use for the most used device in the world.

Auto Reply: Email and Message with Semi-Autonomous Options

The next Apple AI featured designed to save us time will be Auto Reply. If I auto reply to you and then you auto reply to me is that just our AI’s working out all the details? Yes I believe so! We can speed up standard replies, confirmations, change requests, appointment requests, reminders, reservation followup, and other basic messages to help us communicate quickly and get more done in our lives. Always can add some personal touch too, and I’m guessing there will be a chance to insert our own tone and style, just like ChatGPT can do now with “Custom Instructions.”

iPhone Summary: Recap of Notifications

I don’t know about you, but I get too many notifications and would gladly just see a summary of the ones that just matter! Apple’s next-gen AI tools intend to do just that, cutting down the clutter of individuals messages, notifications, and more.

Safari's Smart Leap Forward

Intelligent Search: Safari is likely about to get a lot smarter with the new "Intelligent Search" browser assistant. This feature should leverage Apple's advanced on-device AI to analyze webpages, identifying key topics and phrases to offer concise summaries directly in your browser.

It will be like having a research assistant who prepares quick briefs for you, all without sending your data off-device—keeping your browsing both private and efficient- something Apple will always focus on and makes me happy to be a user.

Web Eraser: Ever wish you could clean up a cluttered webpage? Enter Safari's "Web Eraser" tool. This future innovative feature will let you remove unwanted elements from webpages, from annoying ads to irrelevant sidebars. And better yet, your changes stick around! If you revisit a page, it will appear just as you left it unless you choose to revert the changes. It’s customization that truly caters to your preferences.

Visual Look Up Enhancement

Discover More with a Tap: Enhancing the browsing experience further, Safari is likely to introduce an upgraded "Visual Look Up" feature. Wen you come across images of products while browsing, simply tapping them can reveal detailed information and insights.

This tool will utilize Apple's powerful AI to analyze visuals and provide you with everything from product details to purchase options, seamlessly integrating information discovery. Whether you're shopping or just curious, Visual Look Up transforms images into gateways of information, all within the privacy and comfort of your Safari browser.

This addition to Safari's suite of tools highlights Apple's continued focus on integrating AI seamlessly into everyday tasks, making information gathering more intuitive and accessible.

Did you know Elon Musk was a cofounder of OpenAI (ChatGPT) back in 2015? Well since he has left, he has been honing his AI efforts at Tesla and then started his own AI company called xAI which launched on July 2023. 7, 12, and 23 add up to 42, a reference to the answer to "life, the universe, and everything" from "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a book Musk loves. Not to be outdone in the AI space, Elon Musk’s supposed goal is to create the world’s biggest AI supercomputer known as “Gigafactory of Compute.”

Humane (Un)Pined

The Humane AI Pin sounded like a “phone killer” ahead of its launch, but since then the hype has fizzled after a not so hot release. In fact, the software sounded buggy and slow on its first version so I didn’t open my pre-order and sent it back. Humane is looking to cut their losses and sell the business is the word on the street. For me, using ChatGPT-4o + Apple AI (TBD) on my iPhone is good enough!
