Apple Without AI Looks More Like Coca-Cola Than High-Growth Tech. I Disagree!

The world of technology is in constant flux, and recently, a statement has stirred up a storm in digital circles. Philip S. Blancato suggested that without Artificial Intelligence (AI), 苹果 might resemble 可口可乐公司 more than a growing tech company. But is it really so?
In recent years, Artificial Intelligence has become somewhat of a golden promise for tech companies, with generative AI making its way into public discourse. However, as highlighted by many experts, AI goes beyond generative models like ChatGPT . Apple, for example, is already well-rooted in the AI ecosystem, albeit perhaps not as visibly as some competitors.
Apple Watches, iPhones, and Apple Silicon processors are just some of the manifestations of AI in the Apple universe. But let's not stop there: the tech giant has integrated machine learning into numerous services and utilizes advanced data analytics to drive its strategic decisions.
The real point of contention seems to be the absence of an in-house developed Large Language Model (LLM) by Apple. But should this lack be reason enough to downplay the company's role in AI? Not necessarily. Just take a look at Apple's recent open-source release of the "Ferret" model on GitHub to understand that the company is actively exploring the potential of AI in ways that might surprise us.
As the AI debate rages on, it's important to maintain a broad and critical view. Perhaps Apple isn't yet a leader in generative AI, but that doesn't mean it's out of the game. In three or four years, when the dust settles, we may find ourselves having to revise our expectations. One thing is certain: the future of AI and Apple is anything but predictable. We just need to be ready to look beyond appearances.
