Apple Vision Pro a Good Start
Among other things, Apple sure has mastered how to launch a product. Its new Vision Pro was shown with great detail, followed by a high-res presentation at Apple's launch site (here if anyone missed it: https://www.apple.com/apple-vision-pro/).
The idea of spatial computing, where consumers see data screens and info in spaces in front of and around them, is hardly new. We've been talking about it for many years. The novelty here is that now Apple is in, with all that implies.
However, as impressive as the new Vision Pro headset is, it still is basically a headset. No matter how much the price comes down from its current $3,499 cost, it still has to be worn as high-tech goggles.
The bigger point here is that now the general public is getting a look at what spatial computing, or computing of the future, looks like.
Just like what Open.ai's ChatGPT did for AI in terms of public awareness of generative AI, Apple's Vision Pro is about to introduce the world to the idea of spatial computing.
Consumers may not yet have access to the future, but at least they can get a glimpse of what it looks like.
