In my last article here on LinkedIn I outlined my move from Apple and back to the world of the PC.
This created quite a few responses.
I can confirm that the journey is going very well. Under Windows 11, for example, I have a Taskbar! This is so Apple. My PC laptop has multiple desktops. This is so Linux and Apple! I do not have to restart my laptop after installing the vast majority of software. This is so Apple. Windows 11 has a terminal. This feature, that has been available with Linux and Apple for aeons, is very overdue for users of the Windows OS.
Whether one likes it or not, and I know that many die hard PC users do not like it, Windows 11 is full to bursting with features that can be found within the world of Apple.
Android Marches On
When I dropped my iPhone 12 and the back glass smashed, I thought, now is the time to take the next obvious step of buying an Android phone.
Windows 11 now integrates fully with Android phones. (This is, for me at least, a frank admission by Microsoft that their own defunct mobile OS was rubbish.)
I researched the market and then I spoke with my son.
He purchased an early version of the OnePlus Nord phone. They have released the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. I went ahead and grabbed a model from a John Lewis store.
Firstly, the cost. To replace a back glass on the iPhone 12 is around £350.00. My OnePlus 9 phone cost £650.00. To buy a new iPhone 12 we are talking around the £1,000.00 mark.
Next, the Android OS. It is intuitive; Apple's iOS is no longer intuitive or innovative. The choice of Android apps are endless; Apple is more limited. The ease of using the Google App store is equally as good as Apple's.
The options available on the Android OS is also a lot more comprehensive regarding choice than the Apple iOS which is knocked well out of the park when comparing the two.
One other innovation with the OnePlus range is the option for the housing of dual nano SIM cards.
I can have my main calls coming in, and calls from a network company whom I freelance for, also coming into the same handset. When making a call or sending text messages, I can choose which SIM I use. Apple has nothing like this within their range of over-priced handsets.

In short, for less money, one gets a great phone that outstrips Apple iOS in so many ways. As I have said before, Apple is no longer the innovative company that they once were. This company just churns out inferior machines at vastly over inflated prices.
Integration
The one thing that has been missing for android users is integration with their computers, desktop and laptop.
Now, I have full integration between my phone and laptop PC. I can send texts from my keyboard; make calls; receive calls etc... which is a very Apple like feature.
Summary
Let's do some sums. If I were to stick with Apple and gain a laptop that was capable of high end video processing and compiling, and a phone, monitor, and 10TB NAS we are talking of the following outlay:
MacBook Pro - circa £6,000.00; iPhone - circa £1,000.00; 39" curved monitor £1,300.00; 10TB NAS £550.00; total = circa £8,850.00.
If we cost this for a PC and Android Phone, we come up with the following:
Laptop £2,000.00; OnePlus Phone £650.00; 39" curved monitor £1,300.00; 10TB NAS £550.00; total = circa £4,500.00.
How can it be that setting up an office within the world of Apple, be almost double that of world of Windows 11? This cannot be justified in any shape or form.
Today, in contrast to when I last used Microsoft as an OS, Windows 11 has been transformed into being a solid OS that integrates with an Android phone seamlessly, with the added bonus of features such as a dual SIM within my phone being available.
I am now as enthusiastic about the world of Microsoft and Android as I once was about Apple.
Apple's loss is my gain.

3 年Interesting Arwyn Bailey So when you say "Windows 11 now integrates fully with Android phones." Do you mean like Apple desktop integrates with iPhone?

3 年I agree. Apple products look good and have rabid fans but I question the quality of the engineering and think they are ludicrously overpriced. Unfortunately, Microsoft's "improvements" to windows seem to be anything but from my experience.
