An Apple a Day

An Apple a Day

A young man went to a guru; he said, wise Guru, please teach me the path to success in my life.

I will teach you, the Guru said, but you must be willing to learn. Meet me tomorrow at 5:00 AM at the lake and bring an apple.

I don't want to learn how to swim i need the key to success, the young man said. The Guru ignored this remark and said, meet me tomorrow at 5:00 AM at the lake and bring an apple.

The young man went to the lake at 5:00 AM the following day without an apple. The Guru met him and asked him, where is your apple?

I forgot the young man said, what does an apple have to do with the path to success in my life.

I told you to bring an apple. Come back tomorrow morning, 5:00 AM, to the lake and bring an apple.

I will get one now, the young man said.

No, that is not what I asked you to do. Meet me here tomorrow at 5:00 AM. Bring an apple.

The following day 5:00 AM, apple in hand, the young man met the Guru.

OK, hold the apple above your head and walk out into the water.

Guru, the young man, said I do not want to learn how to swim. I already know the story about wanting to succeed as bad as I want to breathe. I asked you to teach me the path to success in my life.

Walk further in the water, the Guru said. Stop looking to the sky and eat that apple.

The path to success in your life is littered with small choices. Sometimes we want to breathe. What if the saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away is true? Are you healthier today than you were yesterday in some small way because you ate an apple?

Small choices bring tremendous results. As I said, the path to success in your life is littered with small decisions. There is no need to make it hard; every day, find some easy small choice that leads you to the result you want and desire.

Perhaps it is as easy as eating an apple every day.

Eat that Apple, my son.
