Find out in this episode of the Test Guild New Shows for the week of May 26th.

So, grab your favorite cup of coffee or tea, and let's do this.

Appium Money

I found out via a Jonathan Lipps X post that Appium has introduced a ?? sponsorship program to support its contributors and recognize partner companies. Through OpenCollective, individuals and organizations can donate at various tiers, receiving benefits like recognition in Appium's documentation and website. The funds will be distributed monthly to project maintainers, contributors, and upstream projects, fostering community growth. This is great for Appium testers because this should lead to enhanced support and resources, improved project stability, and recognition for your contributions. Financial incentives for contributions can motivate active participation and innovation within the Appium community ??

Open Source TestGen-LLM?

CodiumAI has developed and released the first ?? open-source implementation of Meta’s TestGen-LLM, a tool aimed at enhancing automated unit test coverage. This follows the February publication by Meta researchers of a paper on Automated Unit Test Improvement using Large Language Models.

The new tool, integrated into CodiumAI's open-source project Cover-Agent, promises to improve test coverage with assured improvements over existing codebases. Some cool features are: Automated Test Generation: TestGen-LLM generates tests that compile, run correctly, and increase code coverage. However, it discards those that fail these criteria. Implementation Approach: The tool validates tests and updates the test suite until the code meets coverage criteria or reaches maximum iterations. Enhancements: The tool allows developers to provide additional instructions and context, ensuring more meaningful and edge case-inclusive tests. Human Review: While Meta’s original process involved manual test review, Cover-Agent automates this, proposing tests until requirements are met. CodiumAI's open-source implementation of Meta’s TestGen-LLM offers a powerful tool for testers, enhancing automated test generation and coverage.

HaloAI

SmartBear has unveiled ?? HaloAI, a new AI-driven technology designed to revolutionize software development and testing. HaloAI aims to automate repetitive and complex tasks, significantly boosting productivity and innovation within development teams. Key Points from this announcement are:

Efficiency Gains: In beta testing, HaloAI reduced test times by 98% and automated half of QA tests, saving 20 hours per regression cycle. AI Integration: HaloAI integrates GenAI technology to address talent shortages and enhance team capabilities, allowing developers and testers to focus on higher-value tasks. Customer Focus: SmartBear emphasizes improving customer experience by enabling teams to work faster and more efficiently without replacing human roles.

API e2e Testing

Ivan Karaman , a Principal QA Engineer and Test Automation Coach, highlights a new approach to testing APIs offering ?? an alternative to the traditional end-to-end (E2E) tests. in a blog post. Instead of relying solely on external tests that mimic real-world API consumption, developers can now implement internal tests using Node.js, Express.js, and the Supertest library.

?This approach grants greater control over the testing environment by allowing the API to be tested from within its codebase. It enables the use of mocking for various components, enhancing the flexibility and accuracy of tests. While traditional E2E tests remain crucial for validating API functionality in real environments, combining them with internal tests can provide a more comprehensive testing strategy.

Kubernetes Trends and Predictions In 2024

Kubernetes Management in 2024: Trends and Predictions In 2024, Kubernetes management is evolving with ?? new trends and predictions that aim to streamline, secure, and optimize container orchestration.

Key trends include GitOps Adoption:

  • GitOps uses git for declarative infrastructure and applications, enhancing version control and automation.
  • Kubernetes-Native Tools: Specialized tools for Kubernetes are becoming popular for better integration and functionality.
  • Policy-as-Code: Defining security policies as code ensures consistent enforcement and reduces human error.
  • Automated Vulnerability Scanning: Continuous monitoring of container images and configurations helps in early detection of security issues.
  • Service Mesh Usage: This technology manages service-to-service communication, offering advanced traffic routing and security.
  • AI and ML Integration: AI/ML enhance predictive management, resource allocation, and security anomaly detection.
  • Edge Computing: Kubernetes is increasingly used for edge computing, reducing latency and improving performance.
  • Resource Optimization and Sustainability: Focus on reducing energy consumption and operational costs aligns with environmental goals.

BIG Gatling News?

Gatling Enhances Availability with New JavaScript SDK Gatling, known for its Java-based load testing tool, has launched a ?? new JavaScript and TypeScript SDK, doubling its accessibility for developers/SDET/Testers. This new SDK allows developers to write load tests in JavaScript and compile them to run on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), leveraging Gatling's powerful multithreading capabilities.

This significant update broadens Gatling's user base by enabling JavaScript developers to utilize familiar syntax and tools from the npm registry while harnessing the performance features of Gatling. The JavaScript SDK integrates seamlessly with Gatling's robust code base and supports the Gatling Recorder, an application that captures browser-based user actions and converts them into load-testing scripts. This tool simplifies the process for new users and enhances the scripting capabilities for more complex scenarios. For testers, the new JavaScript SDK offers several benefits:

  • Broader Language Support: Testers familiar with JavaScript can now utilize Gatling without needing to learn Java, making the tool more accessible.
  • Enhanced Flexibility: The ability to use npm libraries allows for more customized and comprehensive load-testing scripts. Improved Usability: The integration with the Gatling Recorder simplifies the creation of load tests, making it easier for testers to simulate real user behavior and identify performance bottlenecks.

These advancements ensure that testers can efficiently conduct load tests using a language they are comfortable with, thereby improving testing workflows and the overall quality of web applications.

HoundDog AI Launches to Enhance Data Security?

HoundDog AI Launches to Enhance Data Security ?? HoundDog.ai has officially launched, emerging from stealth mode and announcing its Series Seed round of funding. The new platform aims to revolutionize data security by offering proactive measures to prevent Personally Identifiable Information (PII) leaks. Traditional reactive approaches often fail to keep up with rapid codebase changes, leading to costly data breaches and compliance issues. HoundDogAI addresses this by using advanced AI to detect sensitive data flows and generate Records of Processing Activities (RoPA) for GDPR compliance.

These features should help testers maintain higher security standards and streamline compliance validation processes.

Bugcrowd Acquires Informer

Bugcrowd Acquires Informer to Boost Attack Surface Management Bugcrowd, a leader in crowdsourced security, ?? has acquired Informer, an external attack surface management vendor, to enhance its visibility and security capabilities for customers. The acquisition aims to integrate Informer's advanced technology into Bugcrowd’s platform, providing better insights into digital assets and improving the scope of penetration testing and bug bounty programs. Informer’s technology, which goes beyond simple DNS scans, will help Bugcrowd clients understand and secure their attack surfaces more effectively, particularly benefiting sectors like healthcare that rely heavily on third-party assets.
