Since the launch of the Appendix H Winter Service Practical Guidance document in 2013, local authorities and contractors alike have needed to regularly monitor the moisture content of the salt in their depots. Fluctuations in moisture content can lead to changes in performance and delivery of the salt from the spreader. Regularly monitoring this allows practitioners to adjust rates of spread to take account of these changes, and is in fact recommended in the Appendix H document. At Safecote we have been helping a number of authorities with this task since the 2013/14 winter, using a UKAS accredited laboratory to provide accurate readings. If this is something you would be interested in finding out more information on then please contact us at info@safecote.com ~ thank you.
