An App Workshop For Non-Technical Founders?
In the mid-90s, I was taught HTML by a colleague of one of my uncles.
I built lots of websites after that.
Including my very first membership site in 1997:
1997!
I then learnt CSS, PHP, SQL and bits-and-pieces of JavaScript and Python.
I built some web apps and a few chat bots.
I designed and hired the building of a few Android and PC Desktop apps too.
Now, early 2020, I am in the processof budiling a voice app for Google Home and Alexa, and I am going through the design process once again.
I got a throwback to mid-2013 when organized an “introduction to coding workshop” for some Adelaide peeps.
It was successful with all seats (I think it was 15) filled.
This workshop was focused on basic coding theory only.
Since then I have coached 1000+ non-technical founders.
The biggest struggle those who want to build software products AND don’t have a technical cofounder, is working out how to navigate doing so.
Yes, having a technical co-founder is a great advantage.
Yes, not creating a software product as a non-technical founder is a wise move.
But, going against-the-grain is also very doable.
Yet, in the context of coaching, for various reasons, I don’t have the time capacity to go through the nuances of app development.
And many fall down because there is no support for helping them build their apps.
Although I have some technical chops, I don’t call myself a technical founder.
I’d much rather do all the upfront thinking and get someone else to put on headphones and code endlessly for days!
I don’t’ enjoy that at all.
And the majority of other non-technical founders are the same.
Actually, I advise against learning to code unless you really love it.
They just don’t have the resources of knowledge of what to do.
Yes, they can get coached by a technical founder, but getting everything “dumbed” down to plain-English is doable by a non-technical founder who has been in their shoes is a huge advantage!
So, I am thinking of putting together a workshop on how to get your app built as a non-coder/non-technical founder, but focusing on more than just high-level theory of coding.
Here is the high-lever curriculum I am thinking so far:
1. Example of what I have built;
2. Details of the full development process;
3. Basic coding theory and what is possible;
4. Hiring developers;
5. Validating concepts before building; and
6. Customer funding over raising venture capital.
Let me know in the comments or via DM if this type of workshop would interest you?
