Welcome back to Access Granted Newsletter, our curated digest of hot topics in Identity and security. With so much noise out there, we’re here to surface the best so you can skip the rest.
Today’s topic > apps. You know ‘em, you love ‘em, you use ‘em to get work done. And you’re not alone. A new report from Okta, based on anonymized data from thousands of customers in the Okta Integration Network (OIN), reveals the most popular apps used by businesses today. Here are some of the eye-opening findings:
App adoption has ticked up. The typical organization uses 93 apps to power productivity, up 4% from a year ago. And in some countries, app adoption is actually up by double digits. Rather than just relying on existing solutions, companies are clearly expanding their digital toolboxes to move business forward.
Compliance is king. The global regulatory landscape is growing more complex, with new rules around? artificial intelligence , data privacy , climate impact , and other issues gaining steam. So it’s no surprise that apps related to compliance surged 120% this year. In fact, 2 of the 10 fastest-growing apps in Okta’s network, Vanta and Drata , focus on data compliance.

More work is being automated. The report shows record growth in the adoption of Okta Workflows , which companies can use to automate Identity management processes at scale. Tasks related to operations, lifecycle management, and security all saw over 58% growth year over year.
MFA is getting stronger. Security seems to be top of mind for businesses everywhere this year, with multi-factor authentication (MFA) adoption on the rise. Of all MFA factors available, higher-assurance factors like security keys and biometrics grew the fastest, while lower-assurance factors like security questions showed a decline.
The bottom line. Complex regulations, evolving cybersecurity threats, and new technologies are all changing how work gets done. Fortunately, apps are rising to the occasion. Find out which ones are in high demand with our latest OIN analysis, Businesses at Work 2024 .

7 个月My personal favorite factor is a YubiKey utilized as a Security Key in Okta's policies. The key may also be used as a PassKey for access in other platforms - Windows Login Access, Google , Facebook. For any type of privileged access whether financial or IT administrative, this is the best choice in my opinion. The challenges with hardware keys are the costs involved to purchase, distribute and manage the inventory. If a key is lost or stolen it may not be reported by the end-user. Strong governance is necessary to put policies in place to handle recertification of keys.
