To APP or not to APP

To APP or not to APP

Many of us have taken a knock during the pandemic because of social distancing. We quickly realised how important it is to have a digital presence - and to have the ability to deliver via digital platforms.

We came to accept that we need to come across as professional in this new digital world. Delivering business solutions via multiple confusing platforms, including WhatsApp or Facebook groups, are not the most efficient way to deliver professional services.

In addition to the above, smartphones are here to stay. Customers expect your services and solutions to be available on their phones, especially the younger generation. Apps are therefore the way to go in keeping current with the digital world (definition of app: an application, especially as downloaded by a user to a mobile device).

Finding the right digital solution/platform delivered in an app format can be interesting as well as challenging. There are many great providers, each offering different capabilities and tools at different price points.

While working through the different options on offer, you may soon realise that there is seldom a perfect fit for your business. What you need is seldom available in one digital platform. The question is then - do we develop our own bespoke app to suit our particular requirements and business needs?

App development is not your core business, therefore developing your own app can be frustrating, confusing, expensive and time consuming, especially if outsourced to a professional app architect. Once you launch your app, it does not stop there as you need to continue further development - which will cost more money and time. You also need to stay on top of the latest development in this fast moving industry. App development is not your core business, so is it really worth it?

In my opinion, the answer is still Yes. Clients want us to stay up to date and deliver modern solutions preferably via phones,. Outdated delivery and services are just not attractive.
