The Apollo Way: The Environment

The Apollo Way: The Environment

More now than ever, we understand the fragility of our planet. The footprints that we leave behind should not be damaging but positively impactful. We are only on this Earth for a short time, which is why we must make it count.?

At the heart of everything we do, Apollo Tyres focuses its efforts on giving back to our planet through our CSR initiatives. We want to raise awareness and strive towards providing a better environment for both our stakeholders and communities. There is still a long way for us to go, but we hope that our efforts will provide a healthier, habitable and prosperous planet for future generations and species to come.

We have been working hard to spearhead several CSR projects that involve, influence and impact our key stakeholders so that together, we can combat climate change, promote conservation, reduce our footprint and better the lives of our communities. With the environment a core focus in the vision and future of Apollo Tyres, we aim to put eco-friendly behaviour, green thinking and resource conservation at the heart of what we do.

So, let us take a look and discover part 1 of 'The Apollo Way...'

As a leading tyre manufacturer, we understand our role in environmental conservation. As a part of our environmental sustainability journey, we have developed the Mangrove Conservation Project. Based in Kunhimangalam village, one of the largest mangrove villages of Kerala, we have established a unique Mangrove Interpretation Centre for mangrove-based research and education as well as the promotion of mangrove restoration through community and government participation. Even though Mangroves protect our landscapes from natural disasters and are a fertile landscape for carbon sequestration, mangrove forests have faced massive degradation over the years, mostly caused by human intervention. They serve as a habitat for our animals and are one of the most productive ecosystems in the world, acting as a catalyst and barrier to natural calamities. Through this initiative,? we continue to raise awareness and promote active community participation in reducing threats to mangroves by generating a scientific interest in the youth of today.

On the topic of biodiversity, sowing seeds and planting trees is the driving factor behind our Afforestation project.

So far, we have planted a total of 350,000 trees with over 24,500 tonnes of carbon sequestered, driving our focus on forest regrowth to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and join the fight against global climate change. We have benefited a total of 326 farmers through our livelihood generation initiative for farmers in the water-starved areas of Tamil Nadu.

There is still a long way to go, and this is only the beginning but we believe that our efforts towards environmental conservation will help reduce the burden on our planet and help to protect and restore this beautiful world that we call home.

Through our Solid Waste Management & Sanitation initiatives, the Apollo Tyres SPARSH Swachh Banao project aims to provide a solution for better health and hygiene that includes proper waste management and promoting the use of toilets. Did you know that India generates over 60 million tonnes of waste, out of which 69% is collected? Only 30% of water collected waste is treated, with the rest then taken to landfill sites.? In 2021,? with technological advancements and the continuation of world developments, it is difficult to understand how this is still a problem. We must do what we can to push the change that we need to see and drive the? 'Swachh Bharat' project so that our communities have the basic human right of clean, hygienic practices and the use of proper sanitation.

Finally, it's not all serious at Apollo tyres, we like to have fun too!

?Have you ever wondered what happens to those beloved tyres that have taken you from A to B for all those years? We recycle them! We turn end-of-life-tyres into playgrounds so that the children of our local communities can have fun and enjoy what was once an Apollo tyre! The recycling of waste tyres is an important step in the road to a more sustainable future.

We haven't found all of the answers that we are looking for just yet, and for that reason, our CSR team continues to trial and test new and innovative ways in which we can increase the product life-cycle and reinforce our reuse concept to steering us and our communities away from landfill and towards a recyclable future. These initiatives are just a handful of the many projects that we have happening in Apollo Tyres . We hope to continue our contributions by building greener?and more sustainable solutions.?
