Here’s what’s new and what caught my eye!
‘Tis the Season.. For Recaps! 2022 is almost done, and we're seeing recaps from all sorts of platforms. Captiv8 recaps the year’s top TikTok trends and puts them into perspective for brands. Google's year in search illuminates broad global trends, while Reddit's 2022 trend report shows that honest conversations and self-analysis ruled the platform.? Even Linktree got into the mix with a fascinating look at the year in links – BeReal was the biggest winner.?
Predictions Too! Looking forward to next year? Pinterest Predicts highlights 27 "not yet trending" topics that will likely happen in 2023, including "Gemini Hair" "Sci-fi Fits", "Vitamin Seaweed" and "Mush-rooms". Instagram joins in with its own trend report, which is somewhat more predictable and self-serving. Both, though, predict that “The Rave” is back.?
The Unfortunate Aspect of TikTok's Growing News Dominance: TikTok users increasingly use the platform for news according to a new study from Reuters. News publishers are also working hard to get their content on the platform. Interestingly, according to the study, users are more than twice as likely to get their news from "internet celebrities" or "individuals" rather than "mainstream" or "alternative" news sources. That could be a problem.
What Happens When We Have Endless Media: You’ve probably explored – and been entertained by - ChatGPT, Stable Diffusion and other generative AI tools. But imagine a world where they are so good that they can quickly create all sorts of video, books, podcasts and more with little to no human intervention. Mario from the Generalist ponders that future with some exciting and scary conclusions. Have you developed a popular IP like Spongebob, Harry Potter or Zelda? Imagine endless iterations created for practically nothing. This world is coming more quickly than we think.?
It’s the End of the World as We Know It? Kevin Kelly ruminates about Generative AI in Wired and concludes “not a single human artist will lose their job because of this new technology”. Worried about AI generated text, images, and video? Read his essay. Kelly lays out 7 stages of the “Tech Panic Cycle” (TLDR, we’re in stage 3 – “Wait, it works too well. We need to hobble it. DO SOMETHING!”). Kevin’s been deep into generative AI for longer than almost anyone, and concludes it’s a duet between human and machine, and one that we should welcome not fear.

Hi, I’m Sam. During my time at UC Davis, I worked with three different companies – two in the creator economy space and one in logistics. I developed front-end and back-end web code bases using ReactJS/React Native, Python with Django, Golang, and many more. I’m passionate about online video and working at VidIQ and ChannelMeter convinced me that creators are the future and I want to help them grow. I'm currently looking for a full-time software engineering position starting in April. Reach out to me at LinkedIn to connect and learn more.

1 年Solid article! I like Kevin Kelly's take and I hope he is right. In the spirit of a duet of human and machine, I started a podcast where we literally speak to ChatGPT--and it speaks back! https://www.talk2robots.com/

1 年Listen. AI "art" applications such as stable diffusion and midjourney used stolen art in the data sets that trained them. They should be liable for billions, for the stolen use of petabytes of stolen copyrighted artwork. Artists aren't ignorant of the technology. They're irate about the theft of their skill and hard work to train these automated tools which can only imitate what they've already done. There's a lot that could be done with these technologies if they were developed in honest ways, and focused on being tools for artists to make sweet with rather than tools to drive down the price of artists' already under valued work. Really smart brush and fill options capable of turning 2d into a 3d render, or filling in a background in a matching style to a main figure. That stuff isn't being developed, though, because the AI art party line is "our genius programming made AI that makes art!" No. Your mediocre programming made an adequate machine learning application which efficiently churned through a mountain of art you scraped from the web without bothering to check the legality. Without the art to train them on, these AI models would be worthless. If the artists had been consulted at all, they never would have agreed to this.

1 年AI robot granted?Saudi Arabian?citizenship with a?role at the United Nations to innovate sustainable development goals?appears to have all indications, even her name, which is corresponding to the end times bible prophecy about the image of the beast which would speak. Wikipedia articles and news reports help demonstrate how this is believed to be the threat to humanity which was foretold and also how to have hope even if true. "that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed." Revelation 13:15. "And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority."
