Apartment EV Charging Options

Apartment EV Charging Options

As EV sale is increasing day by day the rise of EVs places a challenge on existing apartment buildings to meet this increased electrical demand. Providing Electrical Infrastructure for EV chargers to the first few EV owners can be simple; the real challenge is providing electrical infrastructure to an entire building.??

Charging is an essential utility for EV owners. As EVs will uptake scale from 5% to 20% to 100% residents, the required electrical demand will also increase with it. For such an essential investment, futureproofing is the most important factor and some challenges need to be answered:?

  • How to allot electricity to best treat rising demand???
  • Whether to invest in a full-scale charging transition or grow your system successively??
  • How to ensure system compatibility with future technologies??

Detailed analysis of the building’s conditions and careful planning is required to develop a strategy for the long-term charging infrastructure that answers these questions.?

Feasibility Study Report?

iEngineering will work closely with many building owners or lot owners to develop a simple process to ease its transition to EV charging and provide a feasibility study report.?

This report will help building owners or EV owners understand the available EV charging options and indicative costings so that you can develop a long-term strategy for the rollout of infrastructure to meet EV charging demand for your building or lot.?

we will perform a building or lot survey, then collect and analyse the data from the survey. This will form the basis of a report that can be used to lead a committee discussion around an end-to-end EV charging feasibility report for your building or car.?

EV Charging Options?

iEngineering will present all the EV charging options available for your building. These options fall under 5 categories:?

  1. Smart Charger for an EV owner?
  2. Shared AC Charger?
  3. Shared DC Charger?
  4. Separate AC Charger for each lot by expanding existing infrastructure?
  5. Separate AC Charger for each lot by installing new infrastructure?

?Smart Charger for EV owners?

  • ?We have AC chargers from 7 to 22kw of IP rating IP65, and we can use these chargers outdoors & indoors.??
  • AC charger output power can be adjusted from 6A to 32A.??
  • DLB (dynamic load balancing) is available in our AC Charger for home use, when the EV charger is working with other household appliances at the same time, the DLB box can maintain the dynamic balance of the total household current and ensure the safety of electricity to avoid home overload.?
  • The AC charger can be controlled by a smart APP via WIFI or Bluetooth connection. In this app we can see charging data & status, set up various charging configurations, schedule charging, view historical charging records, set monthly maximum charging values, and firmware update.??
  • Charging protocol OCPP 1.6j?

?Shared AC Charger?

  • ?Shared AC Charging is the simplest solution for committees looking to offer EV charging.??
  • Committee funds the supply and installation of the shared charger in the visitor’s car park?
  • EV owners pay for electricity consumption controlled by online billing software?
  • The solution is suitable for the short term as the EV number increases the management and logistics of sharing chargers will become complicated.?
  • Charge speed is 7 to 22kW?
  • Charge time is 2-4 Hrs for top-up and 4-8 Hrs for a full charge.?

Shared DC Charger?

  • Committee funds the supply and installation of the shared charger in the visitor’s car park?
  • EV owners pay for electricity consumption controlled by billing software?
  • Expect better durability of solution however issues with sharing and management of chargers persist?
  • The charge speed is 24kW?
  • Charge time is 1 Hr for top-up and 2-4 Hrs for a full charge.?

Separate AC Charger for each lot by expanding existing infrastructure?

  • ?Committee funds all common infrastructure including DB for EVs, Data Racks, Energy Management Systems, Cable Trays, etc?
  • EV owners fund the connection of private EV chargers and cabling to common infrastructure?
  • Significant investment required by the committee?
  • The equivalent final solution for EV owners as everyone is provided with access to private charging?

Separate AC Charger for each lot by installing new infrastructure?

  • ?Electrical infrastructure upgrade which involves L3 design and L1 construction.?
  • The building will get sufficient power?
  • Long lead time?
  • Significant investment required?
  • Futureproof solution?

Each option presented in the report will have detailed information for deciding upon an EV charging option.?

From the results of these investigations, we will build an EV charging strategy for the rollout of EVs in your building for the next 20 years. iEngineering recommended strategy will be presented in a report containing the following:?

Our analysis will involve the following:?

  • Collection and review of all electrical drawings of your building or lot?
  • Obtain electrical interval data from your energy retailer for quantitative analysis of power usage??
  • Preliminary site assessment for verification of electrical drawings and inspection of electrical infrastructure?

Each option presented in the report will give detailed vital information for deciding upon an EV charging strategy.?

For your kind information, iEngineering can provide Turnkey solutions including:?

  • Feasibility Studies for any location.?
  • Level 3 Design with respective Utilities.??
  • Level 1 Construction work, if required.?
  • Level 2 Service work, if required.?
  • Site installation work as per Australian/NZ Standards.?
  • EV Charger Manufacture and Delivery.?
  • Software Installation & Commissioning.?
  • Technical Support & Training.?
  • Preventive and Reactive Maintenance.?
  • Spare Parts & Software Upgrade.?

We can provide iPower Brand EV Charging Stations throughout Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands. Our iPower charger series includes an AC charger, DC charger, portable charger, and emergency mobile EV charger.??
