AP MeshCam Configurations 2 of 5:

Why use AP MeshCam in “Access Point / Client Bridge” mode?

The AP MeshCam is a dual-radio or dual-band high-powered 11ac wireless device, so it can talk to wireless devices on the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz frequency bands. The AP MeshCam can be programmed to operate in two modes simultaneously, Access Point & Client Bridge (AP/CB) mode. The user or installer can assign each of these modes or jobs to a frequency band (5 GHz or 2.4 GHz) when deploying in an application. Once assigned the AP MeshCam can then operate as an access point on one frequency band AND as a wireless client bridge on the other frequency band. This allows the AP MeshCam to broadcast a signal as an access point on one frequency so that laptops, tablets, smart phones and printers can wirelessly connect to it. At the same time, the second frequency band can operate in client bridge mode (wireless client) allowing it to connect to another wireless access point or wireless router that is wired to the network. Once connected, the client bridge side of the device can transmit video, voice and data wirelessly to a wired network.

The importance of AP/CB mode is that the user or installer can overcome several challenges when installing into different applications. The main challenges are cost, time, difficulties, and inconvenience of running Ethernet cabling to a specific location such as a corridor, foyer or lobby. The AP MeshCam can simply be powered up with its own power adapter and wirelessly connect to an access point or wireless router that’s wired to the network. Any wireless client device operating on either 2.4 or 5 GHz can connect to the internet, share files or videos through the AP MeshCam. This is all happening while surveillance is still underway.

The AP MeshCam allows the installers with more options when installing in difficult scenarios. If the application is at long distances with multiple obstacles and has minimal radio interference, then choosing the 2.4 GHz band for the wireless client is ideal. The 5 GHz band would then be used for the access point. If the application is at shorter distances, speed is crucial and there is a lot of radio interference, then choosing the 5 GHz band for the wireless client is ideal. The 2.4 GHz band would then be used for the access point.

The AP MeshCam in Access Point /Client Bridge mode gives installers the flexibility they need when installing surveillance and Wi-Fi in one location.
