AOS introduces the new AlphaZBL? AC-DC active bridge rectifier solution

Alpha and Omega Semiconductor Limited (AOS, NASDAQ:AOSL), a leading supplier of power semiconductors and chips with integrated design, development, manufacturing and global sales, has announced the launch of an extension to its AlphaZBL? family of active bridge drivers, the AOZ7203AV. The AOZ7203AV is a self-powered dual driver IC in an SOP-8L package designed to drive an external high-voltage triode to replace the two low-side diodes of a bridge rectifier. This new product is suitable for adapters for high-end notebooks and TVs, and can also be used to power desktop computers, gaming consoles and servers.
The new AOZ7203AV features high withstand voltage, self-powered Vcc for AC power supply drive, ultra-low operating current and active discharge of the X-capacitor (CB safety certified). The break-before-make circuit avoids the overlap of two gate drives and drives the low-side high voltage triode in a bridge rectifier circuit. The AOZ7203AV has a wide operating temperature range (-40°C to +125°C) and can drive high voltage transistors with low on-state resistance to improve the efficiency of the AC power supply. These features make the AOZ7203AV the best solution for replacing higher loss diodes in bridge rectifier circuits for AC-DC power supplies.

Armin Hsu, Senior Marketing Manager of AOS PIC, said: "Today's high power consumption gaming notebooks, consoles and high performance desktop computers demand high efficiency in AC-DC power supplies. Using the AOZ7203AV and AOS' low resistance high voltage external triode, the typical rectifier diode forward conduction losses in power converters can be reduced by up to 50%, thus significantly improving efficiency. At a mains voltage of 90V, efficiency can be increased to approximately 0.7%.
