An AOG Recovery
An AOG recovery is a war. You can’t afford to lose. It is a war to win and win only.
It is a team game. Each member contributes in whatever ways possible.?It is a magnificent eco-system wherein, the leaders at times metamorphose to workers and workers at times elevate themselves to leaders. All within the larger and predominant envelop of flight safety.
The prime ingredients of a successful AOG recovery are:-
Effective leadership (needs a LEADER and not a BOSS)
?Cost effective and time saving material management (spares management)
Identification of available resources
Utilization of available resources for steady work flow progress
Effective utilization of tools and equipment from available sources
A healthy and cordial relationship with the local authorities
And
A steady march by the whole team TOGETHER towards the final goal.
In my last AOG recovery, I was lucky to have all the aforesaid ingredients.
Let me take this opportunity to convey our team’s sincere thanks to the Oman Air, Oman GCA and the OTSB officers. We wholeheartedly extend our thanks to the Oman citizens for the abundant love and affection showered on us (without any apparent reasons... ). Their care and consideration for others are praiseworthy. (Probably I can write a book on their Godly nature).
During the process of this AOG recovery, I got a lovely revelation- at the age of 55, I am still a young boy. Running up and down the ladders with a smile, climbing effortlessly on to the engine strut, lifting and passing the bootstrap fittings with one hand- I went back to my mid-twenties. I was singing louder than my young colleagues and believe me, I was laughing too, louder than them.

When the work started, after a good amount of deliberations on where to start, I suddenly realized ?that our tools, without being called for, gave us a great deal of confidence- more than what we decided we should have.?I yelled over the GPU’s noise, “our tools are our best friends”.?Arjun’s smiling eyes were telling me, “sir, we are bosom friends and we respect each other”.??Rahul and Renjith were kissing a 7/16 combi and ? ring respectively.?We all laughed. Over the GPU. ?
Our friends gave us some good area lightings along with a frequent supply of cookies and hot tea -??thanks to the efforts and good rapport of Anil and Ajmeer.
We, together, discussed and decided, and then discussed again, changed our decision, again discussed and again decided, how the work should proceed. ?Safety and regulations were, as usual, the prime considerations.
Arjun, Rahul and Renjith wasted no time in making the preparations. Each one knew his role (no one taught them; yet, somehow they knew). Anil and Ajmeer were busy in conceptual and more managerial aspects. Sharmaji was busy in making perfect connections. I was just running around, singing and laughing.
With the abundant local support, synergy and blessings from above, we could complete the tasks in a faster pace. The goal was achieved. Hands were cleaned, wounds were nurtured, bindings were strengthened and new friendships shook hands. We bid adieu…?
The homecoming was jubilant.?

2 年Good team work led by Pradeep, managed by Ajmeer and guided by Anil Pisharath. When I saw the picture posted, knew about the incident it was a herculean task well executed. The technicians are just fantastic people with lots of hands on experience. Remember them by face, Arjun was with me in line maintenance few years back. Good luck and keep going to keep the birds flying

2 年Thank you Sir, Being Part of this team was the greatest opportunity and a memorable journey .!! Without such great leadership it wouldn't be possible. Like how you said you we had seen a 20 year younger youthful Pradeep sir. You were roaming all around making sure that we get the necessary support. AJMEERKHAN KASIM Sir and Anil Pisharath Sir delivered the Best Efforts to do all the necessary arrangements and support. With this team toughest situations were made easy.I haven't seen any Boss there, Bosses turned into great Leaders. Rahul Nair and Renjith made it more easy for me to work as a team. It was a Team Work with one common goal to see the Metal bird fly safe in skies with her full power at shortest time possible. Hardwork Paid off..!! Dirty Hands, Smiling Faces, Proud Moments...!!
