Anything is possible!

In this fast paced world of technology I firmly believe we are getting away from the human touch and forgetting to smell the roses and the simple things in life.  People are texting "other people" when they are in the company of their loved ones.  At restaurants its common now to see 6 people at a table and within 5 minutes of them all hugging and greeting each other they begin to text or google. The conversations are limiting and as soon as an opportunity presents itself...out come the cell phones. Last Tuesday  I witnessed something at a restaurant that was beyond what words can describe.

Sitting with me was a couple from Whitehorse who were in town to get their passports registered.  While they were in town they wanted to treat their salesman to dinner.  The couple live in a remote area of Whitehorse and had problems getting through to certain dealerships about their needs and their wants. It seemed that no one can possibly imagine that someone from Whitehorse could possibly buy a vehicle in another town.   They were looking for a brand new 4Runner and wanted a limited edition which at the time was quite difficult to get.  They had phoned and emailed several dealerships and to their frustration nobody took them seriously . That is,  until they called my good friend Dario Longo. Dario listened to their story with patience and asked some key questions over the phone. He was precise in his questions and identified what they wanted by listening attentively.   Within a few days he tracked down the exact Toyota 4Runner they were looking for and arranged for the sale to be complete.  Hard to believe but sure enough a few days later they flew down to Burnaby to Destination Toyota and took delivery of their brand new vehicle.  Even harder to believe is the couple drove back to Whitehorse with their then brand new 2010 Toyota 4Runner.

Whitehorse is a long grueling drive back. By distance it is over 2400 kms.  It takes approx. 32 hours by vehicle with over 1000 kms alone on the Alaska and Yellowhead hwy.   There are a lot of Toyota Dealerships between Whitehorse and Burnaby.  Yet they chose one.

So here we were , 5 years later on Tuesday  April 28th, 2015, enjoying a lovely evening full of laughter and good Italian food.  We broke bread together with a few glasses of vino and had endless conversations about Switzerland,70's rock,  Wishbone Ash, Suzannes passion for her Bread and Breakfast business and Ernsts crazy collection of 24 guitars.  The only time we used a cell phone was to take a few photos .

They came in town to be with their friend Dario Longo to show their gratitude and to thank him again for his wonderful service.  I was lucky enough to be invited to this fantastic gathering to reiterate what I have always believed.  If we are genuine in our approach and we sincerely care then we, as sales professionals,  not only make a sale but more importantly build a customer relationship for life.

The moral of the story is simple. They did not select a Dealership...they selected a salesman.

Ernst and Suzanne Hausermann of Whitehorse with Dario Longo of Destination Toyota Burnaby
