Anyone seen Acknowledgement ?

I believe we all agree, that every great idea only becomes something truly great and real when talented and highly engaged people help implement it. A secure circle of trust, where one supports the other regardless.

Acknowledgement is probably the most genuine, honest and also easiest form that can help drive performance and growth for employees and companies alike. When leaders communicate the strengths of people, whether this is done individually or in a group setting, they are far more engaged, productive, creative and positive.

Acknowledgement does not just mean to recognize someone. The word also indicates that you are adding value to them. Letting someone know that you are aware of their efforts drives them to achieve even greater things, proven to provide more sustainable drive than a bonus. So much for the theory.

Why is it then, that in day to day life, Acknowledgement, this pretty straight forward way of getting motivation and engagement up, is so forgotten, or misused? I am simply talking about the small gestures, a genuine compliment, a quick thumbs up, just a honest and I am in the moment Thank You. Too often we're rushing through work, week after week, chasing the next thing, cracking our heads about how to get motivation up, frustration down etc.

When in fact, a simple human gesture, which I believe we're all blessed with, can do so much.

So next time you're in a meeting or call and notice, that this one guy has really started to speak up more or taken the lead on something, pick up the phone after and tell him. Or when the Christmas team Dinner comes around, get out, spend a few hours and pick a few small gifts for your team and truly thank them. Nothing big, nothing anyone should feel too proud of.

Just be more outspoken to the ones around you, whenever you see greatness! It's that simple.

The key to your considerations is (for me): generosity. A thought of Jacques Derrida occurs (perhaps paraxox) to me: "Who gives what he can, does not give". What I understand by generosity is connected with that idea. And this generosity is also reflected in everyday gestures, yes.
