Anyone for darts?

Anyone for darts?

I've missed this. Not necessarily the physical act of playing darts, I was never that good at the game anyway but, definitely missed spending time with my colleagues outside of the office. COVID forced us all to log in to Zoom calls to join structured work fun, which, let's face it, never really worked. The loudest person was listened too whilst others chose to go on mute and/or turn the video off because the "internet is running slow!". Classic work lockdown behaviours.

But now, post lockdown, we're starting to go back to the office and spending time with each other. Remembering how to navigate the office again, moaning that the coffee machine is sooooo temperamental but most importantly we're interacting, face to face, with people you may only have known from looking at them through your monitor. I love being in the office (I know, I know, it's not for everyone!). It's great to hear the noise created by passionate and driven people.

And, then, when you finally get some time to spend with your colleagues sociably outside of the actual office (I mean, our actual office is still sociable!), you can play darts (highly recommend!), share some food and drink and remind ourselves that we are human beings. There's no turning your video off and muting the Zoom call, everyone can interact and join in. Of course, this is not for everyone and some will always find these company parties a little awkward and won't or can't attend. That's fair enough, I've also done that on a couple of occasions. But on the whole, mixing with my colleagues again feels great and hope that it continues!

Have you gone back to office working? How have you found it? What are the upsides for you?

Still remote here, but then my pandemic experience was kind of the opposite being in work daily so its still "new" for me! But 100% agree with the sentiment and looking forward to more face to face quality time with colleagues soon. Nothing beats (several) post-work beers!

    Why bother interviewing candidates?

Yes, we need to hire someone to do a job, that's correct. We could just hire someone based on their CV in that case…
