Is there anybody there?

Is there anybody there?

Is it just me or is Linkedin losing its appeal? Maybe it's a tidal effect as people come and go but I've noticed that posts attract fewer views (not just mine, which I might welcome in retrospect at times, but overall) and even whole days can pass without any sign of people connecting or otherwise engaging. Perhaps this a good thing, we all have better things to do, or it could be that Linkedin need to address a few issues, such as explaining just how the whole darn thing works, but when the post by the boss of a large photo agency attracts fewer than 500 views from the tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands that are signed up for his service then something is definitely amiss.

So the question is, why am I bothering to post about this?

Agreed Peter, I also think you should be direct with your post or informative as you say rather than disguise it, we want the right people to view our profile and what we do as a profession, if the post is not relevant, attractive or too long and miss the point people will not connect through and it will be of no benefit at all, just a waste of time. My feeling is that the main issue lies with the content creators. The fact is that most of the content included in people's posts is a very badly disguised sales pitch for their own products and services. I know that this is of absolutely no interest to me. If the content is either interesting or of some use to me then I will pay attention. All LinkedIn (and other social channels) are doing is providing the platform - so I don't think we can blame them for bad content. That lies at our door. Write better, more engaging content that our audience finds interesting and / or useful and then we'll get the exposure.

That posts attract fewer and fewer views is a consequence of them being pushed down in status updates faster and faster. I sometimes can't even see my own update at the top of the page, as it gets pushed down by a bunch of other updates, news, ads, etc. faster than it takes to refresh the page after I hit "return." LinkedIn used to be a place where professionals could post their professional profiles and connect. At some point, they figured out that is not enough to generate further growth, and started mimicking Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Messanger, etc. So now we get news, silly trivia, cutesy sayings, IQ challenges, and all kinds of other fluff. We all seem to have reached a saturation point in the number of our connections (especially the real ones). The novelty of networking, especially the electronic kind, and the false hope it brought is indeed wearing off.

Perhaps its similar to FB. Last year each post I published to my audience of 130,000 fans I was reaching on average 40,000 with each post. Today with a larger audience I am lucky to hit 15,000.
