ANY MONKEY CAN SELL!

Before any of you sales folks get offended by reading the title, I used to be a sales executive myself! You can wipe that frown on your face now!

This was my manager's favourite quote. I’ve always had doubts on “Any Monkey can sell” being a phrase. It should rather be a question that we need to ask ourselves on a daily basis. “Can any monkey sell?”. Let’s make it more controversial. “Can any monkey replace my job as a sales person?”

With the daily innovations in the CRM space, with the umpteen number of “How to Sell effectively?” , “Be the Sales Goat”, “How to be a Sales Superstar in 30 days”,sales programs in the market, have we lost the most important differentiating factor? “Individuality”?

You can have a CRM that lets you make 200 calls a day while you are busy reading TechCrunch. You can be equipped with The Five Tips to Close a Sale in just 30 days!! You can have the best email templates in town. You can still be a sitting duck.

What sets you and the door-to-door booksellers who somehow convinced you that your family’s most urgent need was an Encyclopaedia, apart, is not the CRM he has or the Sales Courses he had enrolled on LinkedIn. It’s his Individuality. His style. His emotions. His being.

Over the course of time, with sales getting aggressive , all of us have started to search for that Midas touch that can make all our deals close in record time. Searching so frantically to learn to sell, from someone.

If you’ve just swiped your card on a sales course, don’t get furious at me. They are and will always be needed to give you a directional perspective. However , you can’t make gold out of thin air.

All of us can sell. If not, you wouldn’t have convinced your girlfriend to go out with you, you wouldn’t have manipulated your boss to give you a vacation break or even as a kid you wouldn’t have received that cookie from your mother.

Before we turn to Sales Courses and Tips and Tricks to be the Best Closer on the floor, make sure the prospect is able to see YOU and not a bunch of Tips and Tricks standing in front of her/him.

Every Sale is a Relationship. You don’t learn how to grow a relationship. You experience it and evolve in it.
