“Any luck yet?”

“Any luck yet?”

The phrase that any of us searching for a job has heard from friends and family.? In this case the question came to me this morning from my Mom.

I almost laughed out loud when she asked; it has been less than two weeks since I got my downsizing email. Her question was asked with the best of intentions, but as those of us in the current job market know finding a job could take weeks or months.? My Mom has been retired for years and when she had to go back into the job market after my parents divorced she was lucky enough to fall into a job that was perfect for her (via a close friend).??

In today’s job hunt I feel like we all have to make our own luck.

… search for jobs… find a job… apply… repeat ..

… realize that other key words may pull up new jobs… search… find… apply.. repeat ..

… network with contacts? …? keep going ….?

… keep going ...

Am I showing my age by my use of ellipses??

I’m not a boomer (GenX-er here) and I’ve seen the reels and memes about the use of ellipses.? Sorry, it’s in my blood and in my opinion perfectly illustrates the job hunt.

No luck yet for me.? I am e?v?e?r? ?h?o?p?e?f?u?l? sure that the right job will come my way.? And I appreciate the love and support that my family and friends continue to give me.??

Great little write up … I know how you feel. ;) I was laid off in Feb. and applied to nearly 90 jobs since with no luck. ??

Here to share encouragement. My daughter in law was laid off in April, started a new position in August and has already been flagged by her VP as promotion eligible. Keep hope alive. Praying for you (and other job searchers) find good things coming your way.

I can’t tell you how much I have come to hate the question “any luck yet?” I know it is asked with the best of intentions, but I REALLY despise answering that question. Unless you are actively involved in a job search most people just don’t understand how challenging and stressful it is for us jobseekers. I would much prefer the question “can I take you out for lunch or coffee?” Yes please!!!
