Jim Rohn said it best: “Be a student, not a follower.”
?I always wanted to market and sell a tee shirt with my Old White Beard logo on the front and this original saying on the back (the post headline).? The saying came to me one afternoon in San Francisco when I saw a gentleman wearing a tee shirt that stated: “I can explain it to you, but I cannot understand it for you.”? The headline came to me as I walked on.? I am still planning on the tee shirt in the coming months.? In the interim however, I offer a few random thoughts on gurus.
I stand by the headline for this post.? True gurus do not look for followers.? They look for people in need of help and their interventions may be just a brief remark or the asking of a simple question.? Sometimes they hang around a bit, but eventually they move on.
They come in all shapes and sizes, and they often appear at the most fortuitous of times, when we are down and out and looking for some light in the darkness.? That is why it pays to keep your eyes and ears open and your antenna up.? You never know when they will turn up, but they always do.?
We all need gurus at different times in our life.? They will be there for you, and you won’t have to ask for help.
A Caveat: If a would-be guru wants you to be a follower, politely decline and move on.
