You've probably been living in Spain/ Latin America for a couple of years, however you’re not happy with your Spanish.
Maybe your company paid for the lessons, however when it comes to speaking you get stuck after the second sentence.?
When you’re in a social gathering, maybe you’re the only one who doesn't speak Spanish and you make the others switch to English, but they can’t express themselves so well.
Also, when you face emergencies (doctors, electricians, plumber etc.), you need to use Google Translate or rely on someone else to handle those issues which makes you feel a bit frustrated.
For sure, admin issues are a pain in the ass, and you avoid them as much as you can.
You probably plan to stay longer in Spain/Latin America or even the rest of your life.?
And you know that if the time goes by, every time you will feel even more embarrassed about being so long and not speaking the language properly.
On top of that, you want to be a good example for your kids and be able to be in control of any admin issue or day to day situations you face.
I know how you feel because I experienced this myself living in 5 different countries as well as all the clients who joined our program.
And you know, it’s not 100% your fault. You at least tried the paid lessons from your company.
Maybe you even attended most of them, however you’re still stuck, right?
So out of my experience and the experience working with more than a hundred professionals and entrepreneurs, the problem is that you’re not executing properly.
And why are you not executing properly?
Because you don’t put some financial leverage on yourself. Your company is paying for you, so you don't feel very accountable.
Actually, maybe you even quitted after a couple of sessions.

Also, in between those sessions, they don’t give you proper tools and strategies to learn the language by yourself. In the best cases, some random boring worksheets, right?
On top of that, you don’t have any coach in your pocket who holds you accountable and kicks your ass from time to time when you make some excuses, right??
And actually these are the reasons why you never brought up the discipline to commit to it properly.
Of course, then that program was extremely poor.?
Maybe in some cases the course ended earlier than expected because the students did not come and then they didn’t continue.
Or they continued, but there was a big gap in between the courses.
Most probably, you didn’t have a proper structure. Maybe the teacher was improvising topics or just following a very boring grammar book and most of the content you were not using it. That’s why you forgot it, am I wrong?
Then you didn’t practice your speaking very much in those sessions. As probably most of the time, the teacher was explaining things or other students got more attention.
Maybe in the classes, not all of them had the same level, so either you got bored or you felt very overwhelmed. That’s why you quitted, right?
You also didn’t have someone who helped you have a social circle with whom you could practice or to overcome your own fears when facing real life situations.
You also didn’t have any tool or strategy to practice your understanding and even if the teacher gave you some advice, he was not by your side on a daily basis, so you executed properly and consistently, so it never became a habit. Right?
So if you really want to take your Spanish to the next level, so you can integrate into the culture and feel part of the community, you need to bring up the discipline you didn’t bring up so far.
And to bring up that discipline, you need to put some leverage on yourself and hire a coach who kicks your ass from time to time with a program already tailored-made and tested by many professionals in the same situation as you.
If you can relate, share your thoughts, I will be happy to read them and give you some feedback.
