Anticancer, Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, and The C-word
A friend recently emailed about a documentary available through Netflix called the C-word, the story of David Servan-Schreiber, MD.
For all those who have been affected by cancer, either as a patient, care provider, or as a member of a patient’s multi-disciplinary team, I strongly recommend reading Anticancer, written by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD who accidentally discovered that he had a brain tumor while performing an MRI on his brain for research purposes. The international best selling book details an academic physician’s discovery of the power of nutrition , mind, and body in cancer prevention and in survivorship. After fighting for two decades, Dr. Servan-Screiber passed away in 2011.
Dr. Servan-Shreiber’s story and work are an inspiration to many of us in Integrative Oncology, combining conventional medicine with evidence based nutrition, mind, body, and other ‘complementary’ methods. It is with the intent to provide a whole person approach to cancer care for my community that I plan on opening a practice in Concierge Medicine and Integrative Oncology.
