Antibiotics and antibacterial drugs - Pareto's Law in action (80 to 20).
When you talk to funds that finance the development of new antibacterial drugs, they say:
We are not interested, in extreme cases, not relevant, (smile) developments for animals,
that's when you work on drugs for humans, then of course ...
And this even though more than 70% of all antibiotics produced in the world are used in veterinary medicine and food industry!
I repeat, more than 70%!
And more than 80% of the costs of research and development of antibacterial drugs go exclusively to humans.
And less than 20% on animals!!!
And so far, to put it mildly, not very successful (most of the existing approaches, unfortunately, are doomed to gain resistance, but more on that in the next article).
Although it is easier to master numerous grants for very often obviously useless research there ...

Oddly enough, but it's a fact.
I'm not talking about ecology and fashionable ESG.
Ecology - again the same proportion.
80% of antibiotics do not decompose after use and, together with the excrement of animals and birds, enter the water and land, simply pollute our environment, and enter the cycle of substances in nature, again and again antibiotics end up on our table. And these are mainly antibiotics that were used in agriculture.
Therefore, as one of the great satirists said:
“Maybe something can be fixed at the conservatory?”
And start funding the development of drugs to replace antibiotics for animals on a larger scale?
After all, a person, that is, we are what we eat, what we drink, what we breathe and, of course, not much of our own immunity. (smile)
Moreover, the schemes and doses of antibiotic use in agriculture contribute to the development of antibiotic resistance to a much greater extent than in medicine.

And do not forget that you can get resistance from your pet, which was treated with antibiotics. Wash your hands thoroughly and often. This can help sometimes.
