Antenatal Classes for First-Time Dads
Having a baby should be an inclusive and holistic experience for both men and women from conception right through to the fourth trimester and beyond. Yet most Nigerian men are not carried along. This leaves new dad’s feeling unprepared, overwhelmed and at times, resentment towards the new baby.
No-one prepares father’s for thestages of pregnancy, hormonal changes or the new routine when their new baby goes home. They are pretty much expected to “get on with it”.
At Tolu The Midwife Healthcare Solutions, we aim to prepare, support and empower expectant parents for the transition to parenthood through health education.
We held the very first antenatal class for men only in Lagos, Nigeria on Saturday 9th February 2019. It was a theoretical class with practical workshops which included:
? How to hold your newborn baby
? How to change a diaper
? How to look after the cord
? How to bathe your newborn baby
? Supporting your wife through exclusive breastfeeding.
It was an awesome class with amazing feedback. “I have learnt so much. I’m happy I came.....I feel more confident absolutely my baby’s arrival now” Soon-to-be dad.
We will be having a mainland edition soon. Would you like to join us? Please send an email with your name and contact details to: [email protected].
We will be in touch as soon as we have confirmed a date.
That sounds great. Have they reported their experiences
