Antalya experienced a decline in tourist numbers from Russia in September compared to the previous year.
According to the Antalya governorate, 2.89 million Russian tourists visited Antalya in the first nine months of 2023. Germany ranked second with 2.59 million tourists, followed by the United Kingdom with 1.09 million. Poland, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Romania, Israel, and the Czech Republic follow in decreasing order of the number of trips.
The number of Russian tourists in September can be estimated based on previous data, with 510.8 thousand Russians visiting Antalya during that month. This is a 2.8% decrease compared to August 2023 and a 6.1% decrease compared to September of the previous year. It is worth noting that the flow of Russian tourists to Antalya has been stagnant since August, and September shows a clear downward trend.
Additionally, September 2023 performed worse than both July and August, despite September being the most successful month for Russian tourism in Antalya in 2022. Tour operators such as Anex Tour, Coral Travel, Tez Tour, FUNSUN, PEGAS Touristik, and Intourist also confirm the decline in September tourist numbers.
Overall, Antalya experienced a slight decrease in September 2023 compared to the previous year, which aligns with the overall trend in tourist flow. Some tour operators have observed increased bookings for other destinations such as the UAE, Egypt, and Thailand in September compared to the previous year. The increased prices for tours in Antalya compared to the previous year are considered a major factor contributing to the decrease in demand. The volatility of the ruble and the overall increase in prices for goods and services in both Russia and Turkey are also factors affecting the decline in demand.
