Answered Prayers: Finding Purpose in Layoffs

In the summer of 2013, as I sat down to a late dinner after another demanding workday, my wife looked at me with concerned eyes. "Peter, your work is consuming you. This isn't healthy." Her words struck a chord, stirring up an old memory of encountering the famous Infant of Prague statue during a youth trip to Europe. The tales of miraculous happenings from praying to this icon inspired me to embark on a 9-day novena, pleading for guidance.

On day 8, it hit me - maybe these prayers were working! A top saleswoman I'd been recruiting for years reached out to say she was starting her own consulting business. Listening to her reasons resonated deeply. That night, I renewed my pleas, but this time with an open heart saying "Your will be done."?

Well, be careful what you wish for, because the very next day? Bam! Called into an unexpected meeting only to get blindsided with a layoff - my role was eliminated. But instead of devastation, an overwhelming sense of meant-to-be clarity washed over me. It was like the universe had choreographed this pivotal redirection.

From there, everything unfolded like a cosmic plan. I left my corporate sales grind behind and transitioned into consulting, guided by the intuition that this disruption was truly a blessing. An answered prayer allowing me to reprioritize faith, family, and true fulfillment over the empty hustle.

Let me tell you, layoff stories are usually painted as these tragic tales of fear and rejection. But my experience proved how they can actually be holy wake-up calls when you're operating with the right spiritual foundation. Hitting that professional reset allowed me to finally double-click on my purpose.

If not for my wife's loving candor and that novena journey, who knows how many more years I might've stayed stuck, consumed by the corporate hamster wheel. Sometimes it takes a lightning bolt revelation to shake you free from comfortable inertia and realign you with your true calling.

I'm infinitely grateful that my divine shake-up allowed me to pause, reset, and get intentional about finding my path again. Having the prayer mat pulled out from under you isn't the worst thing if it ultimately leads you exactly where you need to be. Talk about an answered prayer!
