Growth of the Industry: U.S. coworking spaces have grown tenfold in the past 12 years, according to a recent report by CoworkingCafe. The sector currently claims over 113 million square feet, that’s 1.67% of the total office space nationwide, a drastic increase from 12 million sq ft in 2010. “Coworking spaces have made their way not only into bustling urban cores with thriving business districts but also into several trending American suburbs, thereby highlighting once again their rising popularity among today’s workers who are no longer location-bound.” Check out the full report that shares coworking spaces, sizes, distribution & operators in America’s top markets, as demand continues to grow.?Read Full Article.

A Lesson in Flexibility: Work arrangements played a part in the collapse of both 瑞信 and SVB , reports Fast Company . Behavioral economist, hybrid expert & bestselling author Dr. Gleb Tsipursky said: “I believe a significant factor in Credit Suisse’s downfall was its rigid stance on forcing staff to return to the office. This cautionary tale serves as a reminder for business leaders to adapt to the changing world of work and prioritize their workforce’s needs and preferences. By forcing staff to return, Credit Suisse demonstrated a lack of empathy for its employees’ wellbeing and work-life balance. This coupled with the organization’s missteps, most notably a $5.1 billion loss from a client, threw its workers into an environment of decreased morale, heightened stress, and increased turnover rates.”?Read Full Article.

Better For It: Hybrid workers say they're eating, sleeping, and exercising better. A new study by International Workplace Group plc of over 2,000 hybrid workers shows the work model is leading to a healthier workforce, with employees dedicating more time to creating a more positive lifestyle. Respondents say the time saved on commuting has resulted in both health and wellbeing benefits such as better cooking habits, more time to exercise, and a longer night’s sleep. 66% believe their mental health is good as a result of hybrid work and 81% said they have had additional personal time as compared to pre-2020. Work Like A College Kid: Remote jobs have some workers feeling like college kids again: They play in the afternoon and work at night, reports Business Insider . Stanford research has shown many remote workers are switching the 9-5 for afternoons of leisure, errands and naps, finishing their work, much like a library all-nighter, during off-hours. As a result, the shift in work hours has created a huge boom in weekday golfing (great news for leisure businesses), without seeing a drop in productivity. "The simple story is on WFH days, it's a great opportunity to do things like go to the dentist, play golf, go shopping when it's quiet," said 美国斯坦福大学 economist, Nick Bloom . "Employees are instead working into the evenings and weekends. Much like students choose to spread work out — rather than just work 9 to 5 on Monday to Friday — employees are also choosing to spread work out." Read Full Article.

Third Space Investment: Millions (£) have been invested to create third spaces for UK remote workers, reports HR magazine . The new 'work near home' initiative launched by startup Patch aims to bring neighborhood workspaces to high streets closer to home, giving remote workers community spaces where they can work alongside others. Gemma Dale , HR Director and lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University said: “It would support employees in meeting their social needs, reducing some of the isolation some feel when working remotely. Similarly, it will enforce work-home boundaries for those that need a lot of separation of work from home life for their wellbeing.” Co-founder of consultancy 10Eighty , Liz Sebag-Montefiore said: “Providing flexibility to employees who need to work remotely is a good thing and benefits younger workers who may not have suitable working spaces at home and others who dislike the isolation of working from home. These workers may find a co-working space congenial and an improvement in their productivity.” Read Full Article.
