Another Version of Heaven

Yesterday when I walked in the room of a third grade class.  I observed the many anxious faces peering at me, thinking what type of teacher I was. The teacher's husband was very sick and she had to leave immediately.

The first thing I did when I say class you say" class , class." The students repeated the chant a few times. Now the class was ready to learn. You can add any verbiage you want. The idea is to get the children's attention quickly.

Many of you have heard of whole brain learning. It's the most exciting way to teach children while you can see real learning taking place. Where the eyes are focused on the teacher , and each child has the benefit of learning.

On this particular day I had to teach mental math using tens using the problem 48+32=?  I showed them the  tens in the number 48 and three tens in the number  32. then adding the remainder of the numbers you get the sum.

The exciting part of this is having taught the concept children repeated it back to their classmates. I was able to get the entire class to participate. Whole brain learning is the most popular way to teach right now and probably the most fun  for children to learn.

No longer is there the long rant from teachers while students just  sit there and consume information. No students are active participants of learning.

In my classroom I have students come to the board  and show me how they would solve a problem on the smart board, or on their whiteboards.

Whole brain learning appeals to each child's learning style, creating an atmosphere of another type of heaven. Heaven is prevalent when the students feel confident in their abilities to learn something. The concepts make sense to them,empowering them to be better versions of themselves.
