Another Simple but Valuable Tool
You just rendered 30,000 tiff or exr files for a DSM or a DI and you realize you named them all wrong. Your client just delivered 22 reels of footage shot on cameras that all start recording at 00001.mts, and you need to add reel numbers so post workflow will actually work. The sound person you found at the very last minute added "My_Cool_Movie_" as a prefix to every audio file they recorded and delivered you mono files instead of poly files, so you have to rename them all so your audio tool can combine them. (I know the golden rule is never rename source files, but when production gets it wrong, whatchagonnado?)
Just a few examples of times you might have an overwhelming amount of renaming to do and might need some help. There are lots of ways to do this stuff, some built right into the OS, but this little utility is a blessing when you have a tone of things to rename, renumber, chop, prefix, suffix, date, find, replace, index, de-index, append or...whatever to thousands of files at a time.
The interface is absolutely overwhelming, but if you take a few minutes to study it, you will find that it can do almost anything. Bulk Rename Utility is one of my go-to tools, and I thought you might like to know about it. It is free for personal use and can be licensed for commercial environments as well.
Give it a try and let me know what you think.
