How this?popular?Turkish Series?integrated?Family Constellation therapy
We often struggle with unanswered questions and unexplainable patterns in our lives, we ask around, talk about it or go above and beyond with different therapy methods to find the answers. Through all of this, we hold the responsibility of what we are trying to heal by thinking it's fully our pain and experience. Truth is, it has nothing to do with us sometimes.
"Another Self" is a new Netflix Series that explores just that! The Turkish drama tells the story of three friends who are set on reconnecting with their past and healing the inherited trauma from their families.
Family Constellation is the type of therapy that is?used in the show and it?reveals to us what happened behind the scenes to those around us that ended up affecting our lives up to the present moment. This form of therapy was created back in the 70s and was derived from the healing customs of the Zulu people in South Africa. The procedure can either occur in a group or one-to-one basis, when working with a group, one person gets to be the main focus of the session and the entire group is most usually a bunch of people who have never met before. This may be uncomfortable in the beginning but it adds a sense of authenticity and credibility to the procedure as even prior knowledge of whatever is being healed is not shared with anyone except the facilitator of the session.
The “Family Constellation” method is?a method founded on the fact that a family can thrive only when we are in harmony and in agreement with our family system. Its purpose is to find solutions to family-related issues and it can benefit our other relationships (friends, partners…). It helps us to get in touch with love that truly heals us. Family constellations are not indicated for specific diagnoses, but they may be beneficial for those struggling to overcome?childhood trauma, experiencing complicated feelings after the death of a relative, or various other effects of problematic family dynamics. It draws the client’s attention to patterns and dynamics they had not previously considered, they will likely develop improved insight into their behaviors.?It is based on the concept that anything that happened in your family line can affect the way you think, feel, and behave now. One person’s grief, fear, or anger influences the entire family. Because family members are connected in the?morphogenic field and they all feel the effects of things that happened to each of the family members before them.
Here Are Some Pointers To Consider :
Morphogenic Field
The morphogenic field is an energy field that contains the memories and specific energies of a group. That group can be a family, a community, a country, or even the entire population of the world. Because this energy field contains all of the knowledge from the group, it can help us understand the sources of our issues, even if no one has told us the facts.
Excluded Family Members
You might think that your family would never exclude a family member, but unfortunately, it happens all of the time. In family constellations, excluded family members are thought to affect the entire family, even after the family no longer has contact with them. Some examples of excluded family members are:
These excluded family members continue to affect the entire family. If another family member takes their place, this new family member may take on their emotional struggles, addictions, or even physical illnesses.
?
Drive to Belong
This family constellation method identifies the drive to belong as the greatest influencer in the family. If someone feels like they don’t belong, they’ll do anything to get that feeling of belonging.
Hidden Loyalties
Within the family, we all have loyalties. Sometimes, according to family constellations theory, we have loyalties to family members who died before us or family members we’ve never met. These hidden loyalties can lead us to follow patterns, develop habits, and make unhealthy choices we can’t understand based on the factual information we have. Constellation-focused family therapy can help us understand how these loyalties are driving us, so we can make different decisions.
Uses for Family Constellation Therapy
This can be used for a wide variety of problems, including physical, mental, social, or spiritual issues. This therapeutic method can help us overcome problems like:
Family constellations are not indicated for specific diagnoses, but they may be beneficial for those struggling to overcome?childhood trauma, experiencing complicated feelings after the death of a relative, or various other effects of problematic family dynamics.
Because the family constellation draws the client’s attention to patterns and dynamics they had not previously considered, they will likely develop improved insight into their behaviors.?
How The Process Works :
The individual in question selects different people to represent different family members and themselves, these people then begin to channel the energy of whom they are representing. The facilitator will ask guiding questions to each member and create a safe space for everyone to express their emotions and perspectives. In a sense, it almost feels like watching a play or a movie about your life and you fully then understand where certain traumas and patterns came from. During the session, all members need to be as expressive as possible. Physical sensations, emotions, and certain thoughts of whomever a person is representing start channeling through, and the more expressive a representative is, the more clarity it brings to the session overall.?
The one-to-one sessions work the same way, except that the person in question will have to role play and represent all the members she/he wishes to involve. The client could use?creative expressive therapy techniques, using toys or figures to represent their various family members.?

Client Testimonials :
“I had the pleasure to experience family constellation. I was able to play family members of other people and watch my own family constellation. It was a very powerful and healing experience. There were many moments when I was completely shocked by the details spoken by other members, even if they did not know my family story. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to make peace with their past.”

“I joined a few FC therapy sessions in which I was representative, it has been fascinating to see how by representing another family member I connected to the same issue of my own family and made me see, understand and process my own issues.
I also did one FC therapy session for my family, it was intense to see ‘as a spectator’ how the dynamics of the family??
After the session, I felt peaceful and lighter as if a weight has been lifted from my body.”

Client Story :
My client had a core statement ?I am not loved?by my family so why would anyone else love me?“
Then I invited her on zoom to meet other people to represent her family and I started to move small figures in the family field as these people (representatives for her family) felt and told me where they want to stand and how they feel about it.?
In the end, we came to this constellation:
?During the next two weeks, the client expressed how she was going through internal emotional shifts towards her family members and the change of perspective she was developing towards her personal identity and view of her reality. In her words :
“Despite the fact that I have undergone multiple forms of therapy before, it wasn’t until I did family constellation that I finally found the answers I was looking for in terms of understanding why my parents acted the way they did. It clarified so many things for me and changed my perspective of my identity. I no longer carry the emotional baggage that I used to think was mine and all complications I once had about myself and my character seem to have faded into love and acceptance which is something I am immensely grateful for….The most shocking thing for me however was that as I healed, I realized my family members did as well. Even though no one knew about me doing therapy, every member’s attitude towards me shifted positively. I saw it in their text messages, actions, and even tone of voice. The greatest incident was also when my parents coincidently met after 21 years of not even agreeing to be in the same room together and it went so well that I could not believe it when I heard! Healing is a painful beautiful experience but it makes it so much better knowing that in return my loved ones also heal with me, even if it's done indirectly”
