This may not surprise a lot of people, but the Times with data from FactSet declared that Amazon passed Walmart in total volume of goods sold thru July, 2021. Another (rather mind-blowing) outcome of the dramatic shift in shopper behavior due to the Pandemic. I believe the average industry observer would anticipate these kind of changes, but maybe closer to 2025?
Either way, it is an extremely compelling time to study consumers and shoppers and how the biggest organizations will strategize to be more relevant with them. Would it be surprising to see healthcare clinics with physicians in your local Walmart at some point? It will be very interesting to watch.
