Another Reminder that Cybersecurity Should be a Priority

As we saw in the U.S. over the past week, the impacts of cyber threats are not going anywhere, and the implications of cyber-attacks continue to increase, bringing cybersecurity to the forefront yet again. The Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack this week highlighted the impacts attacks like these can have on our supply chain due to the interdependencies that exist. It also brings us to the realization that we are only as protected as our most vulnerable partners. So, what can be done? Where do we start? In an article by Expel’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), Bruce Potter, he outlines three things you can do now to prevent “supply chain” attacks (https://expel.io/blog/supply-chain-attack-prevention-3-things-to-do-now/). You need a plan, a backup plan, and you need to be creative. While he points out “supply chain” means different things for different organizations, essentially it means all the parts and pieces, partners, and systems you depend on for your business to operate. Knowing how your business will be impacted if one of the cogs in the wheel goes out and what your plan is for mitigating the impacts is critical. A great place to start is to look for opportunities to educate yourself, seek out resources and work with your partners. One opportunity to do this would be to register for a special webinar being hosted by the Blavatnik Interdisciplinary Cyber Research Center at Tel Aviv University and the EIS Council – GRCom webinar series will focus on creating worldwide collaboration between suppliers, manufacturers, vendors, customers, governments, regulators, and end-users will be held on May 26th.
