Another night, another toxic strata meeting

Arriving home last night after attending a terribly nasty strata meeting, I pondered once again why people are so unkind in these forums. In search of an answer I googled 'collective behaviour' and found CG Jung knew all about strata long before it was invented -
“A group experience takes place on a lower level of consciousness than the experience of an individual. This is due to the fact that, when many people gather together to share one common emotion, the total psyche emerging from the group is below the level of the individual psyche. If it is a very large group, the collective psyche will be more like the psyche of an animal, which is the reason why the ethical attitude of large organizations is always doubtful. The psychology of a large crowd inevitably sinks to the level of mob psychology. If, therefore, I have a so-called collective experience as a member of a group, it takes place on a lower level of consciousness than if I had the experience by myself alone.”

6 年Paul, these owners forget your protecting their interests. They feel they have a right to abuse one, rather than working through situations to achieve a positive outcome. They wouldn’t behave like this at home nor work. Basically they are very rude, they should have a long hard look at themselves

6 年Sad to think that this occurs everywhere, when people with a common goal within the OC, that is to make a better living environment will still do their utmost to make lives miserable for others, despite there being legislation to follow when more often than not, it is this that used to gain for individual benefit. Meetings are meant to be informative, beneficial and results driven and have others at interest, not individual interest. I would say education to all is beneficial even if it must be one on one conversation when owners join committees. Sorry to hear Michael you had a tricky night.

6 年I could not agree more. The unwillingness to listen and follow legislation is so frustrating.
