Another Mom Victory: $425,000 ??

Great news! We have obtained a result of $425,000 on behalf of a mother who was terminated right after birthing two newborn baby girls. Here are the details:

Defendant, a large nonprofit committed?to christian values, told our client they fired her because the organization was experiencing budget cuts. Our client was terminated right when the pandemic hit, leaving her with no income during?a particularly challenging time in the job market.?

When we took the case, our client expressed that the reason they gave her just didn't seem right. And her instinct was correct.

When we filed the case and compelled the organization's records, we discovered that they had continued to hire new employees during the same period they terminated our client. They had also also received close to a million dollars in PPP loans, which were forgiven by the government and never paid back. (This is all public record by the way).

In internal emails, management was frustrated due to our client's maternity leave.

When she asked at her termination meeting why she could not fill another job, they blamed her "accessibility," even though she had only just given birth and hadn't even returned from maternity leave.

A year after the termination, the organization fired another employee right after she provided notice of pregnancy, and yes, we had to sue them twice.?

Our?client's case is a case of wrongful termination through pretext. The organization tried to hide behind a fabricated reason to cover up the true motivation behind the termination: pregnancy / childbirth discrimination. Nice try, but you can't outsmart the mothers.?

These case victories come about in situations where women have to be reactive in the face of being wronged at work. As a women's rights lawyer, it is my mission to help women remain proactive as well, which is what the Mamattorney Academy is all about. Doors reopen October 3rd. Join the waitlist!

**The content contained within this article is not legal advice. Every case is different. This result was achieved in California and was based on the pregnancy discrimination protections under the Fair Employment and Housing Act.**
