Another Marriott Data Breach
This was the second major data breach at Marriott in 2 years. March 2020 breach affected 5.2 records (https://news.marriott.com/news/2020/03/31/marriott-international-notifies-guests-of-property-system-incident). In the 2018 breach 500 million records were lost (https://www.csoonline.com/article/3441220/marriott-data-breach-faq-how-did-it-happen-and-what-was-the-impact.html).
In 2020 , the breach started in mid-January using the login credential of 2 employees and was detected in end of February. Experience shows that data breaches are inevitable - near impossible to avoid - and persist for long periods. They should take actions to ensure that attacker DWELL TIME is reduced - minutes is much better than months. Moreover, approaches to reducing DWELL TIME must be independent of the usual detection and prevention approaches. SCIT development was supported by Army, Navy, DHS. In addition Telos Corporation conducted an independent test (https://old.scitlabs.com/images/pdf/telos-assessment.pdf).
SCIT can help reduce Dwell Time to as little as 90 seconds, disallowing an intruder from exfiltrating data.
