Another Great Event!

Another Great Event!

I am thrilled to report that the ‘The Rebirth of Local News’ Disruptive Futures Dialogue on September 13th was a fantastic success.

Our Disruptive Futures Dialogues harness the power of creativity and collaboration and engage people from all walks of life and in a wide variety of fields to examine some of our most critical issues — locally and globally. This Dialogue explored issues of truth, trust, integrity and ethics in the news; and how local journalists can leverage the arts and engage broader audiences to build trust and effect positive change in their communities.

In the words of one of our attendees:

As a former newspaper reporter myself, it was heartening and motivating to hear a smart group of young people talking so sensibly about gathering and publishing news. The gadgetry might have changed — getting texts from potential sources instead of rotary phone calls — but really, the intentions and commitments of truth-seeking reporters are timeless. - M. Cook

The following is more information about the event, community impact, and next steps. We truly appreciate your continued support and dedication to positively disrupting the status quo.

Best,

'The Rebirth of Local News' Impact:

? We filled all 100 available seats for this free public event within three hours of opening registrations.

? Hakim Bellamy, Inaugural Poet Laureate of Albuquerque, wrote and performed the custom poetry piece 'Bye Lines' for this event.

? 24 professional artists and journalists paired together to moderate ten group discussions to define community needs and next steps.

? The live-stream recording of the event has been viewed over 175 times, and our Facebook event alone reached over 3,800 people in the Santa Fe area.

? We had radio interviews with Richard Eeds (KTRC), Honey Harris (KBAC), and Tom Trowbridge (KSFR).

What is next?

? A professional recording of the event will be published with closed captions in English and in Spanish.

? We are reviewing and analyzing the notes, surveys, and data generated at the event to define next steps.

? Our partner, Solutions Journalism Network, will be writing a summary article of the event for national dissemination later this month.

? Based on the enormously positive feedback we are exploring a follow-up event in 2019.
