ANOTHER GOLD IN THE OLYMPICS?

The Olympics and Pickleball!

WAPA International S.A. WWW.WAPA.WORLD ?and the Olympics on a joint Journey. As of now, pickleball is not an Olympic sport. We will, however, do our utmost to support the journey to become an Olympic class from Panama. While Pickleball has gained significant popularity, especially in the United States, it has not yet been included in the Olympic Games. The process of becoming an Olympic sport involves meeting specific criteria set by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), including worldwide participation and the establishment of an international governing body. Pickleball is still in the early process of growing its international presence and meeting these requirements.

To become an Olympic class game, a sport must meet several requirements and go through a detailed evaluation process by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Here are the primary criteria and steps involved:

1. International Federation Recognition:

  • The sport must be governed by an International Federation (IF) that adheres to the Olympic Charter and is recognized by the IOC.

2. Popularity and Practice:

  • Global Popularity: The sport should be widely practiced across the world. For men's sports, it should be practiced by men in at least 75 countries on four continents. For women's sports, it should be practiced in at least 40 countries on three continents.
  • History and Tradition: The sport should have a history of international competition and be practiced for a significant period.

3. Governance and Regulations:

  • The sport must have a well-established and transparent set of rules and regulations. The International Federation should ensure fair play and ethical standards.

4. Infrastructure and Logistics:

  • The sport must have a well-defined structure for international competitions, including World Championships and continental competitions.
  • The sport must be feasible in terms of venues and equipment required for the Olympics.

5. Anti-Doping Regulations:

  • The sport must comply with the World Anti-Doping Code and have effective anti-doping measures in place.

6. Safety and Health:

  • The sport must ensure the safety and health of the athletes, with proper measures and guidelines to prevent injuries.

7. Youth Appeal:

  • The sport should have the potential to appeal to the youth, aligning with the IOC's goal of engaging younger audiences.

8. Gender Equality:

  • The sport should promote gender equality, offering equal opportunities and events for both men and women.

9. Sustainability and Legacy:

  • The sport must align with the IOC's sustainability goals and contribute positively to the Olympic legacy.

10. Olympic Charter Compliance:

  • The sport must comply with the Olympic Charter, including the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.

Evaluation Process:

  1. Proposal Submission: The International Federation submits a proposal to the IOC, outlining how the sport meets the criteria.
  2. Review and Evaluation: The IOC Program Commission evaluates the proposal, considering factors such as popularity, governance, and logistical feasibility.
  3. Executive Board Decision: The IOC Executive Board reviews the recommendations and decides whether to include the sport in the Olympic program.
  4. IOC Session Approval: The final decision is made by the full IOC Session, where all members vote on the inclusion of the sport.

Temporary Inclusion:

  • The IOC can also include sports on a temporary basis, allowing them to be featured in one edition of the Olympic Games to evaluate their popularity and impact.

Recent inclusions into the Olympic Games family have been less popular sports like:

  1. Skateboarding
  2. Sport Climbing:
  3. Surfing:
  4. Karate:
  5. Breaking (Breakdancing):

That said, we CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN!!! These inclusions reflect the IOC’s efforts to modernize the Olympic Games, making them more appealing to contemporary audiences while maintaining the spirit of global competition and inclusivity. We will soon meet all these criteria with your help and donations.
